djpretzel stepping down as admin of OCReMix

Not sure how many other people here know about OverClocked ReMix or care about news related to it, but this felt like something worth sharing in case anyone who does didn't already hear the news elsewhere. Long story short, the site's founder and administrator, David "djpretzel" Lloyd, is stepping down from his duties.

I still remember the day I discovered OCR. Little-known fact: in the early days of my YouTube channel (the creation of which also birthed the pseudonym I go by), I did Doom wad reviews in a style that (poorly) imitated that of AVGN. At one point, I created an intro I was gonna use for future reviews - but sadly never got to before deciding to stop doing them - and uploaded it to the channel. And the intro featured a remix of the E1M1 music from OCR. Of course, I didn't know it was from OCR at the time, having downloaded it from some other site, but when I got a friend request from the OCR YT channel (back when YT had the functionality), I had the joy of discovering the site and the awesome VGM remixes it held within. And still holds.

Admittedly, I don't remember to visit OCR very often, but when I do, I like to listen to as many remixes hosted on the site as I can, new and old alike. And one thing I appreciate about the site is how the crew behind it have spearheaded the appreciation of video game music as an art form and hosted one of the most prominent hubs for it (to the extent that "prominent" can be understood in OCR's case) for this long. In a way, djpretzel changed the world by starting OCR in the first place, and I have no doubt that the rest of the crew will keep the site running with the utmost respect to its legacy.

I have not paid much attention to OCRemix in ages, although I used to be a big fan of it a couple of decades ago. It is cool that it is still around!

I am also relieved to find out that djpretzel's decision to step down is not motivated by some scandal. I wish him the best.

I got banned immediately after registering on ocremix, without even making a post. Either country filter or a dynamic IP coincidence, chances are it's the former. I liked some of the projects there but that "incident" left me upset with the site and I lost interest to it.

There was a buncha great OC remixes of Sonic 1-3 tracks I had downloaded back in the day, 2002 to be exact, sadly when I went to visit the site years later they seemed to all be gone and nobody bothered to upload any to YT. Not that I'm a stranger to lost media, be it pictures or otherwise, but it goes without saying: if you don't back things up you like from the internet there's no guarantee it will still be there later.

Was a bit scared by the title of the thread but I'm glad that the split was amicable. Feels like you don't hear too much of that from old corners of the net these days. I don't really think about OCRemix that much, not really my scene, but I hope the road ahead is as bright as it seems for them.

Ah, OCReMix! I enjoyed their amazing remixes and their Doom albums, The Dark Side of Phobos and Delta-Q-Delta, so much so that I made a mod which replaces Doom's soundtrack with OCReMix's counterparts.

Oh yeah, those albums were easily my go-to Doom remixes... at least, until Andrew Hulshult's IDKFA came along.

Hangarmaggedon was even used as Recoome's theme in Dragon Ball Z Abridged:

Yeah, I forgot, that remix of At Doom's Gate was kick-ass aswell, especially that guitar solo. It was also used in Extermination Day, an official map pack for Brutal Doom that sadly was abandoned.

I used to be invested in the remix albums they made, till the site went through a huge dip in quality in my eyes (there was a distinct period where for me and my brother,  everything released just lacked the same quality, the Sonic 1 album come to mind). I particularly loved the Doom remixes, and I have a strong memory of walking to my first university class with the freshly released Delta-Q-Delta album on my PSP blasting through my headphones, and loving every minute of it.

The other stand-out track for me was Darkness Dawning.

I remember downloading some of Bart Klepka's remixes from that site, it was an incredibly long time ago, sometime in the early-to-mid-2000s I suppose. Haven't frequented it at all, but I remember it was one of the sites I'd check out for videogame-related music. (There was also another site with a very Internet 1.0 design where people uploaded their MIDI remakes of video game tracks, but I forgot what it was called.)

I remember being in love with Electro Cute Bunny around 12 years ago. Listened to it again now that I was reminded of The Dark Side of Phobos by this thread... I guess my tastes have changed, doesn't live up to my memories. Also loved the remix albums of Zelda: Oracle of Ages/Seasons, very nostalgic games for me. Essence of Lemon/Lime if I'm not mistaken. Maybe I shouldn't revisit those, keep the good memories intact hehe. Still, listened to OCR albums quite a lot back then, hadn't visited the site in years, as others have said. Wouldn't have heard the news if not for this post.

I'm not really such a fan of VGM that I visited the site a lot or anything, but I did come across some of the remixes regardless at times. One I particularly liked was their remix of "Brinstar-Red Soil" from Super Metroid titled "All the World in One Girl."
