DrowzyBomber13 Posted November 9, 2023 (edited) As the title asks, how would you go about making a cone in Doom Builder? I attached a screenshot of how big I'd like it to be. (The grid is in 1 mp) I'd like for it to be the roof for this building. Edited November 9, 2023 by DrowzyBomber13 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
1 Dragonfly Posted November 9, 2023 If you're working in UDMF format, see https://www.dfdoom.com/tutorial-introduction-udmf-vertex-slopes/ In short, create a circle shape, connect all the sides to the center so that this circle is contstructed out of triangular sectors, then using the vertex handle in 3D mode, raise the center up. Pictures below to demonstrate: If you don't see the vertex handles, you're either mapping in a format that doesn't support them, or don't have the option enabled. You can find that option here in the toolbar across the top if you're in a supported format (e.g. UDMF): 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 ramon.dexter Posted November 9, 2023 Its easier than you would think. Imagine, how cone looks when looked top down... 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 DeetOpianSky Posted November 9, 2023 Depending on the map format / intended source port it may be as easy as using the stepping tool (mbf21 - vanilla) or the slope features after splitting the cone into sides. Vanilla through MBF21 will result in a more stepped cone. For UDMF this tutorial by Bridgeburner is very helpful with setting up the advanced slope tools for a smoother looking cone. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 Stabbey Posted November 9, 2023 Just to make sure, do you mean Doom Builder, the early 2000's level editor which had support discontinued in 2006, or Ultimate Doom Builder, the currently actively supported editor? I think Ultimate Doom Builder likely has better tools to help with fancy stuff like that, and Doom Builder 1 and 2, probably less so. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

If I wanted to make that a 3d floor, how would I go about doing that? 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 Dragonfly Posted November 9, 2023 (edited) Making it 3D would be a more painful experience for sure. You'd need to make sloped dummy sectors for each "face" of the cone, each of which is meticulously positioned parallel to the target sector... I know there's a 3D floor plugin / mode built into UDB but I've not dabbled with it yet, hopefully someone else can advise. But if you wanted to attempt it yourself, I did write a guide on Sloped 3D Floors. Edited November 9, 2023 by Dragonfly 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 Xaser Posted November 9, 2023 Definitely go with UDB's 3D Floor Mode rather than do it by hand, especially if you're wanting to do any sort of sloped 3D floor stuff -- those are a royal pain to do by hand and 3D Floor Mode manages most of the ugly bits for you. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

0 Dragonfly Posted November 9, 2023 Exactly the kind of results I'd hoped to see from saying "Hopefully others can advise". Thanks Boris :D 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I just keep getting an error that says "No space left for control sectors". Im also not sure how you got the green square thing to pop up like that. Is that the control sector? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
0 RonLivingston Posted November 9, 2023 I recognize making cones like this 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

0 Patrick_Plays_Doom Posted November 10, 2023 i would first make a circle, then make one a few mapunits smaller then the first one inside it, and then repeat 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
