100% vanilla Doom: Level Names + new monster

Question

Can someone advise me on the simplest and best ways to;

 

1. Change level names for automap. 

2. Add a single new monster without replacing the base rogues gallery.

 

I need this to be a 100% vanilla compatible method. I havent made a vanilla mod in about 10 years and I'm a little rusty since I'm used to using UDMF these days.

IIRC, you can change that with dehacked patch. You can also change the text from the intermission text.

Okay, this is actually impossible. There's unused frames like the "raise" state for the pain elemental, but since you can't add new codepointers to frames that don't have it, you can't use them to make a new enemy.

Something that everyone does is replacing the Wolfenstein SS, moat of the time they will never make a Wolf 3d themed level, so i don't know if that helps you

The best method i know is Whacked4, but if you want something like DECORATE, you can use DoomTool's Decohack. There's no much tutorials on this, however, so i recommend to stick with whacked4

Replacing the Ss could work. Would I be able to change its behaviour and stats? Which method would work best for this?

1. DeHackED patches + changing the level name graphics outright should help with that
2. ...No? You could always pull an Icon of Sin and build a new boss or something out of textures (you know, building it's "skeleton" into the map) and already existing monsters though if you're smart enough

For stats, DeHackEd as well. for behaviour i would say DeHackEd as well if your doing something simple like running speed and rate of fire, yeah
