Plerb Posted November 11, 2023 Doom doesn't really have any facts that I would call disturbing. The development history is well documented and surprise, despite the morbid themes it was made by well-adjusted adults who liked heavy metal and horror. Any examples of disturbing Doom facts people bring up are almost always stuff that can easily be disproven (e.g. hanging Mussolinis). This video says it best: 17 Quote Share this post Link to post

xScavengerWolfx Posted November 11, 2023 Now as far as "scary and disturbing" goes....there is nothing really there that would warrent that kind of thing. I mean sure there's wads and megawads out there that can be scary and disturbing but over all there's nothing really like that, unless you wanna count Doom 64 and the soundtrack to that then yes, yes it is. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted November 11, 2023 I heard... that the devs at id got sick of their boss's shit, so they ripped his head off, slapped it on a pike, and put in the game as the FINAL BOSS!!!1! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

The Royal We Posted November 11, 2023 (edited) There is some textures in Doom which were based on photos (or scans) of Kevin Cloud's knee injuries. I don't know what all the textures are, and as far as I can remember some of them weren't used in the game. He was also the model for Doomguy's pixelated hairy arm. Stylish, no? Also according to Kenneth Scott (former artist of id from '98 to '08) He modeled Doom 3's main player character after Cloud's likeness Kevin Cloud is Doom 9 Quote Share this post Link to post
Endless Posted November 11, 2023 Not really disturbing per se, but, there's probably thousands of long lost and forgotten WADs gathering dust in some ancient floppy disk, HDDs or someone's CDs. If I've learnt something about forum threads on Doomworld, is that every once in a while someone comes out of nowhere to reveal they found and restored some ancient PC or drive, with a DOOM WAD stored, and share it with the rest of the world. I don't think it is spooky, but it is an ominous feeling to think about all the thousands of lost worlds out there, some awaiting, some doomed to oblivion already. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Like really, unless you want creepypasta tier shit, there's very little about that One day in late August, I had an urge to play Ancient Aliens; it was one of my favorite WADs of all time, and I enjoy revisiting every it now and then. However, this time was different. When I loaded the WAD into my preferred source port, Doomsday (I like the 3D models), and began a new game, everything was different. As opposed to the usual psychedelic visuals of Skillsaw's masterpiece, the entire map was instead covered in blood. Even the statusbar was covered in blood, which was actually very irritating as it meant that I couldn't make out any of the information displayed. However, I simply brushed off this unusual occurrence as a mere glitch; I was using Doomsday, after all. As I began to play through the map, I also took note of the fact that the Musical Instrument Digital Interface song had been replaced by violent, bloodcurdling screams, resembling a horrific murder more than any form of actual music. Figuring this was simply an updated edition and Skillsaw had just gotten into some obscure genre of noise music, I pressed on. Though, when I got to MAP02, that was when I realized something was truly wrong. Instead of the typical second map of the WAD...it was MAP02 of NoYe! Oh my God, how could this be! Suddenly, a shrill screech sounded from behind me. I turned around, and it was Skillsaw, but with empty black voids gazing at me from behind his glasses!! "What do you want from me," I asked, praying that he wasn't here to criticize my choice of source port. What he said next haunted me... "I'm here to take your soul...wait, is that Doomsday? What the hell, why are you using Doomsday? If you want 3D models, just use Voxel Doom." "But wait, Mr. Handsaw! How can you tell that I'm playing Doomsday when you don't have any eyes!" "Because I'm wearing glasses, dumbass." "Sorry." Then he sawed my fingers off using a SKILSAW-brand circular saw and surgically removed my left kidney. I am now in the hospital, typing this to you using my nose. I will never play a Skillsaw WAD ever again. Mostly because I no longer have fingers, but also out of spite. Maximum Matt Posted November 12, 2023 Map 16: Suburbs is supposed to be based on the neighbourhood ol' Sandy Petersen grew up in, right down to the buildings and the teleporter trap. If that ain't disturbing I don't know what is 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Or six...when I became a PC gamer subscriber a year or so later I realized there was way more to life than just super Nintendo lol ...that's all I got. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

TheMagicMushroomMan Posted November 12, 2023 The Blue Neurowave Beta. A basic source port compiled in Javascript around 2003, it was quickly removed after only 213 downloads, one of them being mine. It was uploaded on accident and it's proof that deep neurowave technology is a game for fools. I can still hear the screams, I can still see the blood. From an average day to a mental warzone fighting against 212 faceless individuals hijacking the code while they twist the knife in, all because of a .json file downloaded from Rapidshare. I survived, but at what cost? The deepwave donkey punch echoes throughout time, traveling from a primitive past to a virtual eternity over and over again, unable to calculate the answer needed to free us. I've tried over and over to get my experience added to Midnight's Doom Iceberg, but the code was fractured long ago and the bytes remain in cold stasis while the same numbers repeat themselves in honor of the broken psyche. 6 Quote Share this post Link to post
