Scariest/Most disturbing fact about doom I & II

I saw John Carmack at a grocery store in Los Angeles yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly.

Haha, is this real? Didn't someone say never meet your heroes?

// She doesn't unload her video stream from memory on exit, the API only refreshes once something else asks to draw... was a way to simplify multi hardware variation support, not to be lazy...

I've only got scary speculations, not facts. I don't think there are any scary "facts" about DOOM. But, the one that I find rather slightly disturbing is that Doom guy at the end of Circle of Death sits down and waits for death, completely giving up on living until he's told that he can disable the demons' entryway.

Maybe he became self aware and found out that he has to endure Sandy's city levels after this, I dunno.

Now as far as "scary and disturbing" goes....there is nothing really there that would warrent that kind of thing.

I mean sure there's wads and megawads out there that can be scary and disturbing but over all there's nothing really like that, unless you wanna count Doom 64 and the soundtrack to that then yes, yes it is.

I wouldn't call Doom 64 "scary or disturbing."

It's more or less the sight loss and ringing ears simulator.

Thankfully no, it's a copypasta.

When this site was launched, Doom was only 5 years old.

I feel like I'm having a heart attack whenever the "Doom 1 or Doom 2?" thread resurfaces and I see that it was started 23 years ago...

If we're talking about how disturbing how old Doom is, I gotta say I remember when I downloaded Tom Hall's Doom Bible back in 2000 and thinking to myself, "man, I'm a true nerd, I'm still obsessing over a game that's seven years old"

Man today I learned that Tim Willits used to use his foreskin as a blunt wrap and a coke straw and I'm not sure how I should feel about that, why would you want to smoke something that was up your nose.

I guess the rumor that they used a real life corpse as one of the decoration scans could be considered disturbing?

Not really something you lose your sleep over but anyway.

I heard... that the devs at id got sick of their boss's shit, so they ripped his head off, slapped it on a pike, and put in the game as the FINAL BOSS!!!1!

Since then, many people have complained to id software about the murder of their boss. They even sued the company for the charge of homicide. John Carmack then released an apology video, saying: "Our behavior with our boss does not reflect our personality with other people (except with our boss, of course)."

It's all a Dream

Such things as "Doom" or "Doomworld forum" never existed. All of what you see here it's just a bad dream and when you will wake up it will dissapear forever.

The scariest Doom fact of them all: CONS1_1 is on the ceiling in E1M2 when it really shouldn't be.

The scariest thing is that it is ten thousand posts long :). That was supposed to be the joke, anyway. I probably should have edited in another panel, with a crash zoom on the reply count.

It seemed older then than it does now. Of course, back then, Doom was just old. Now it is "retro" ;).
