I present to Doomworld my first community project, Lineal Distancing!

Looks like even the linedefs in our beloved editors have caught wind of a terrible fate, which has caused the Sector State of Line legislative body to mandate a policy where...

THE GIMMICK

...for each 1024x1024 block from the origin, no more than 64 linedefs can be placed. This is the core rule of the project, which also counts control sectors but not teleport closets.

This means control sectors count towards the line count in each 1024x1024 block they affect, so be cautionary as to how you use / optimize them. Teleport closets are somewhat exempt to this, as they usually take up enough lines to have a noticeable reduction in map complexity. They still apply to the block and line rule, but only in the block they're in, not the ones where the player usually is.

Mapping signatures do not count towards the limit for each block, as long as they aren't accessible to the player without noclip.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

I'm planning for the beta to be released by the end of this year - this means all 32 maps are planned to be in a mostly finished state, where only few errors need to be ironed out.

Please do not claim too many maps if you know you can't finish them in this set amount of time. Due to the relatively lax nature of the set limitation, I recommend each individual participant to have an absolute maximum of four maps submitted for this project.

As this is aiming to be Vanilla compatible, please make sure to test your maps on the CRL port¹ to be certain that they can run in vanilla DOOM. It's also worthy to note that this port only runs on Windows.

Progress will be made through the Vanilla Mappers Association Discord server², where the resource wad, slots and submissions are handled.

SLOTS (No mention = free to take! 21 Slots open.)

Yea I usually use craptones of linedefs in my maps and always make them for either boom or limit removing as I prefer making big and overdetailed maps (my most big and detailed one so far has had like 35 000 of them), so no can do! I hope you find people who find this interesting though. Best of luck to you!
