Chookum Posted November 30, 2023 I have found a port of ZDoom on Android. It came bundled with both episodes of FreeDoom and Sigil. The controls on a touch-screen are not precise enough to keep up with the action of a first-person shooter. Now, if I had some peripheral that plugged into my phone and gave it controls, I might stand a better chance, but touch-screen controls are a no-go for any sort of precision shooting and movement. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
DNSKILL5 Posted November 30, 2023 Yeah, and it sucked ass. Glad to have a PC. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
MEMEAIDS Posted December 1, 2023 Yeah, I played the DoomGLES app on android, back when I got my first tablet. I only had the demo that had E1M5, at first. Then another version came packaged with FreeDOOM and Requiem. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

DoomGuy2077 Posted December 2, 2023 I have an old style Razer Kishi that I've played Doom with but it's not very sturdy. The controls wobble on the side of the phone because the back is mainly elastic. I also have a clamp that fits on a standard Xbox one controller with a mount for a smartphone that works better. But honestly I have a lot of trouble playing Doom with sticks. I did it for years and I don't know how I managed. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

TheShep Posted December 3, 2023 I originally got an iPhone to play Doom RPG, but ended up never buying it. Now it's so old and dusty and doesn't work on modern OS's that... well, I like the iPhone now. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Eurisko Posted December 3, 2023 Yes I have and I wont attempt it again. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
JadingTsunami Posted December 3, 2023 All the time, yes. I use the "steering wheel" turn mechanic originally seen in Doom Classic. It works fine for me, I just play on a lower difficulty or with this script from plums. The script does a great job evening out the difficulty. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Mizuki_Jun10 Posted December 5, 2023 I've played and continue to play on my cell phone when I'm not around the PC, but it's quite uncomfortable, and it's good to at least test the levels themselves too. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Doom is kinda playable actually when you get used to the controls. While I have never played Doom on mobile. I remember playing and beating all the singleplayer botmatch campaign of Open Arena (FreeDoom equivalent of Quake 3) in around.... 2014 or 15. Probably was on the easiest skills but I don't know exactly. Of course I would never prefer it over kb&m Edited December 6, 2023 by ReaperAA 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
soner du Posted December 5, 2023 (edited) I have one "official" (featured in the official store) version of Freedoom on my feature phone (a "smart dumb phone" under KaiOS, a Nokia 2720). https://www.kaiostech.com/store/apps/?bundle_id=kaios.app.freedoom Uneasy controls, but it works. I've not tried to change the IWAD, but it's possible. Edited December 5, 2023 by soner du 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

QuaketallicA Posted February 9, 2024 Last time I played an FPS on mobile was the Call of Duty clone/knock-off by Gameloft, Modern Combat 4 on iPad. That was probably a decade ago. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Caffeine Freak Posted February 9, 2024 (edited) I remember playing all the way through Doom Classic on the iPhone some years after it came out (I played it in late 2015 I think, and the port was released in late 2009). At the time I remember thinking that even though the controls took getting used to, Carmack did a damn fine job with the port and it was easy to play once you got used to the navigation and such. Pretty sure I played through on UV skill as well. It would seem that the current version has not fared quite as well, judging by the middling reviews. (Not that it's any difference to me, having been an Android user for years now.) Edited February 9, 2024 by Caffeine Freak 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
taufan99 Posted February 11, 2024 Just got me a Samsung Galaxy A05s back in November, but didn't feel like playing games there until January, while also reinstalling Delta Touch after having bought it many moons ago. Some GZDoom mods, wireless joystick connected with OTG, and presto! Now I can safely say this is my best DOOMing (and gaming in general) experience so far, after a long time of having been too reliant on potato laptops. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Astar Posted February 11, 2024 Oh yes, of course I played Doom RPG on my Sony Ericsson W810i, what a fun game! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
