opinions on pineapple on pizza?

Recommended Posts

It rocks. I know some people hate it but those people all deserve to go to the same place as anyone with a wrong opinion:P)

It's weird though, the people that hate it have strong opinions about it but it's not like I always ran into people irl who disliked it.

I don't like pineapple on pizza, but I think Toast Hawaii is the shit and that's kinda similar I guess.

So the true answer would be no*.

*technically, but under certain conditions maybe yes if I'm feeling like it.

There's a whole category of things that offend me personally, intellectually and professionally, which I nevertheless enjoy. One example: a chai latte with a shot of espresso in it, or, worse!, a matcha latte with a shot of espresso in it. Honestly . . . they taste pretty good. I never order these things for myself, but having tasted them I can't condemn those who do.

I understand being shocked and appalled by pineapple on pizza, but have you ever been to a place with tacos al pastor, and they have a pineapple up next to the shawarma spit thing, and they slice off some pineapple and put it on your tacos al pastor? It's freakin delicious.

I think I've also had savory SE Asian dishes with mango in them, which were delicious.

I don't like it myself, partially because I don't like the sweetness on the pizza, but mostly because I can't stand pineapple.  I prefer pepperoni and black olives.  If others like it, awesome, we all have different tastes.

I condemn pineapple on pizza as much as I condemn Avocado in Sushi. and that mean a lot.

I mean I love pineapple, and I love dessert pizza, but pineapple on pizza, nah, the taste don't go together.

Hawaiian's been around almost as long as I can remember. I've worked for Shakey's, Domino's, Pizza Hut plus

another pizza place I shall leave unnamed but was there for over ten years. Fifteen or so years ago, one of my

kids expressed his distaste of putting pineapple on pizza with an adaptation of a sentence from a beer

commercial:

"Don't fruit the pizza!"

I think it goes well with ham and the cheese, making it a sort of Hawaiian toast, which is probably as Hawaiian as pineapple pizza is Italian.

Yeah, I just looked it up, Toast Hawaii was invented by Germans, just like Spaghetti Ice cream and well, canned ravioli isn't really eaten in Italy either, I don't think.

Pretty good treat, tho. To all of that, even the ravioli, as a child, anyway.

I think that as soon as pear goes on a pizza, it becomes a flatbread. Pineapple appears to be a marginal case.

I have no problem with the concept of pineapple on a pizza, although it doesn't feature on any of my favourite types of pizza (such as the Cortina - Mushroom, garlic, gorgonzola, sun-dried tomato, oregano). One of the first dishes I learned how to cook involved pineapple (basically pineapple, fried onion and cayenne pepper, but there was probably something else too) - that might make for an interesting pizza topping.
