I wonder what kind of theme will going on for a Sigil sequel. If the first one was set in what i call myself "Inferno on steroids", what is next? I hope something in the style of The Shores of Hell

One month left... As what @Anarkzie said, it doesn't seem like Romero will be able to make the deadline of December 10th. I recently checked his Twitch account and saw that the last two levels he was working on were E6M6 and the secret level, E6M9. With one month left, I would expect to see finishing touches, but from what I can see on his stream VODs, that is not the case.

 

I think I would expect an official announcement or trailer for SIGIL II on December 10th, the 30th anniversary of DOOM, and then the actual release taking place sometime in 2024.

 

EDIT: Actually three months left, which might be enough time. I was tripping when I wrote this post, thinking December came right after September...

@Fireseth if the deadline is December 10th, then what do you mean by "one month left"? He has plenty of time, and he averages 20 hours of build time per level. How many levels does he need to build at this point? E6M7 and E6M8? Plus the rest of M6M9 i guess.

And polish. And playtesting. And music (according to the lastest stream it's being made but not done yet). And planning visuals / paraphernalia / big box / etc etc. 

He'll probably make it by Dec 10th but there isn't a whole lot of leeway. Personally, if it makes for a better product, I really don't care if it comes out December 10th or January 10th. It's just dates, whatever.

I'm sure all of the maps that have been completed for months have been playtested during this time. Did you see how many experienced mappers he had playtesting the first Sigil? Three months is a lot of time to complete 3 maps and polish the whole episode. He can be done with the mapping by the end of October (much earlier if he wants to give it more time for polishing), and then have his team playtest throughout November. I don't understand what you mean by planning the visuals... aren't the visuals in the completed maps already done?

I don't think he'll be waiting to chose/make a cover art for the box at the last second, he probably already has that in place, alongside with the next Buckethead soundtrack. And if we're talking about the midi soundtrack, i doubt there's a concern with the deadline there. I'm sure he'll make it in time, and it will be quality. The whole point is for the episode to celebrate the 30th anniversary, releasing it anytime in 2024 will decrease the magic a little bit in my opinion.

While I largely agree with your points, Sigil was released months after it was supposed to, and it’s very possible it’ll happen again. I don’t think I’ve heard if he’s doing a big box and such this time, but if so, I’d bet it’ll be late again.

@Faceman2000 oh, yeah... i forgot about that. :( I still feel like he has enough time, and his recent streaming pace keeps my hopes up. He just uploaded his latest stream, and it's 6 hours long. It seems to me like he's pushing for completion. Only time will tell...

As of last stream, there will be a big box, as well as potentially a I+II combined big box.

I can't really catch the streams of him making the levels, but the little i saw it seems to be a connecting episode between Sigil and Doom 2? I noticed a lot of earthly locations and earth bases. Imagine how cool it would be if the final level lead into entryway or something like that. Although i wonder how the hell so many things can happen between Doom 1 and 2, Episode 4 already kind of pushed it timeline wise and the ending text said Doom 2 was next. And then Sigil 1 pushed it farther along by Doomguy being sent to hell again instead, then the text AGAIN says Doom 2 is next. And now Sigil 2 seems to be an "Episode 6" of Doom 1 and will probably have the same ending. Like jeeze poor Doomguy can't catch a break before Doom 2 lol

Me too. I think I had dipped my toes in as a total novice, but SIGIL was definitely an inspiration for my mapping.

This is the main Doom release I've looking forward to this year. From Twitter, I gather the non-MIDI music won't be by Buckethead, but Thorr?

It's so cool that there'll be a box for collectors -- and pins! I love that stuff although I'm not a collector. I haven't played Sigil yet (nor the old, old ep. 4) but I might finally get it along with the new one. I'm watching a recording of the latest mapping session right now.

So it is officially going to be called "SIGIL II"?

 

You know, it is quite cool when you think about it: Doom is about to get a sixth episode, like Wolfenstein 3D! :D

I want this to be a reality so bad, but sandy has stated several times that he has no interest on making a doom level. I guess that we would never see "Downtown II: Return of the evil arrow that leads you to the incorrect path"
