Would you?

Recommended Posts

I'm really struggling to think of reasons why anyone would. My answer is no.

What are the rules anyway? Will he show his pp if you ask him kindly and be his bitch?

Honestly, this feels wrong to me. Like, this is such a zero effort way to earn money, and it's probably aimed at mindless fans who carelessly throw their money around in a deliberate attempt to cash in on them.

idk, Cameo exists for a reason, sometimes people just want it if the option is there. and it's not like he charges for every question you ask him - he answers questions frequently on Twitch if he's streaming and the discord holds FAQ sessions often. my guess is that this may be more aimed at press, etc.

Tf are you supposed to have a phone call about?

"OK, thanks for paying $99.95, what would you like to talk about?"

"uhhhh, the weather's nice out here, how's it over there?"

What's your max price then?

I'm just not into groveling, and I don't particularly care how much of a celebrity someone is. If I get to talk to them or meet them in an organic way then that's cool and I would of course tell the story when relevant/speaking to people who would be interested. But I'm not gonna scramble for a staged phone conversation... it would just feel fake and weird to me. Also, it isn't much to brag about if you paid for it, lol

That actually makes a lot of sense and would make this seem less scammy. Maybe he got sick of people pestering him for their own benefit and said "fine, buy your ticket and get in line!"

I have a lot of respect for John, but couldn't justify the expense. I'm sure I'd be delighted if it was gifted - it really doesn't seem that weird to me.

15 mins to talk to the god father of fps games? Oh hell naw, with john it would have to be an entire weekend talking about doom and ask him about if he will ever do a Quake map

I'm assuming this is for press stuff or interviews. Even if I had the money to burn, what would I even talk to him about? Seems like an awkward way to waste 100 dollars lol.

Does it cost extra if you want to have an argument with him?

Can see that happening...

''Hey John, how do you play lilith? You do know those washed up colors aren't correct, right?''

''Why is it that you still do X wrong in Ultimate Doom Builder?''

''So, about Daikatana...''

''Oh wait, this is the John Romero from Doom 3, right?''

It's funny how nobody in their right mind would pay 100 bucks up front for a 15min phone call and yet you see plenty of people that drop 100 dollars in donations on their favorite streamer for no more than 15 seconds of attention.

I don't think it's the monetary value that's the problem here but the fact that it's a price rather than something you gift freely.

It's the same principal that free-to-play games utilize to make money. Make people want to give you money rather than charging them before they are emotionally invested.

God no, I never really liked these sorts of paid meet and greet sort of things. Like, you're paying for someone to talk to, it just feels completely artificial and kind of wrong.

Maybe? Is this a normal thing that celebrities do (outside of Hollywood types)?

My guy, you are saying this like these are the same people. They're very much not. Maybe there's a little overlap, but I wouldn't count on it.

I mean it more in the sense that even people that spend hundreds of dollars every year on their favorite streamer for reading their donations wouldn't pay the same streamer 100 bucks for an online call that lasts 15 mins. Or at least they would be far more hesitant about it.

I think that's more because it would feel like an social interaction that's fueled by monetary obligation, which feels incredibly awkward and forced.
