[New deadline!] How much health? A CP where monsters have a limited total health count

Because I'm impatient, MAP19 "Gladiator" is now at the very least in RC1 shape. Built in 7 hours in SLADE, tested with dsda-doom 0.27.5 complevel 9 - though, admittedly, without the lost soul dehacked. I was lazy.

 

160 enemies - 40 imps, 40 lost souls, 30 pinkies, 20 revenants, 14 hell knights, 12 barons, 3 archviles and a cyberdemon. Up until the very final cleanup, berserk only, so I hope you've been practising your infight herding.

 

The OP suggests both 45 and 50 HP for lost souls. I went with them being 50, but if they're 45 I can just chuck in a little more fodder.

 

There's probably a whole myriad of softlocks possible, especially in co-op, but that's a problem for future me to deal with.

 

Balanced for UV pistol start. Beatable saveless, though I'll admit the archviles can be pretty RNG. Playing continuous will obviously give the player a lot more capacity to deal with all the monsters, but probably not too much? Arena's too cramped for rockets most of the time, cell ammo is theoretically scarce, and other weapons have lower DPS than the berserk fist.

 

Music is Machine Reaper (D_MACREP) by me.

 

160 monsters, 1 secret and 5 items on UV. Lower difficulties get extra soulspheres and armours in the main arena, as well as better weapons for cleanup. I forgot to put a par time into the UMAPINFO, but it's roughly 4 minutes.

Ikr, sure! Last time we did it all within a month worth of mapping, submitting and playtesting. This time around, I think we should be more meticulous and organized, in efforts to honor people's time and hard work on the project.

Thanks! You certainly can help out! Everyone here has the permission to suggest things so we can deliver and match people's expectations! In the last project, they managed to deliver so many high-quality maps, it was the best experience! I'm really sorry I haven't been able to keep daily updates here on this forum page. I'm determined to contribute with one map too! Maybe we can extend the deadline a bit if there are people currently working on their maps.

I'll help you set up a server later, for now ours is still tied to the Amalgoom project. Soon it will become something else entirely.

Man I really wish I could join this community project, I really like the idea, and I got some really intriguing ideas for map30, sadly, I don't really have much free time at the moment, and I still need to finish another project. I'll let you guys know when I'm free

Not gonna lie, I was sort of working on a MAP30 too. If working together helps alleviate the time pressure for both of us, that could be an option - and to be honest, I was already considering having it go the Megiddo route.

Yeah I think I could go for that plan, I think it will help absorb the pressure of having two projects at once personally

Nice idea. We will save slot 30 for @rafael2100 and @Novaseer. I am helping @Astro X in this project management. Can we confirm slot 30 for you?

 

There is no special rule, but it would be Nice having an Icon of Sin at the end (and for free, because monsters not spawned when map starts don't count in the HP limit of 65k of this map.

Not a bad idea, actually - that way the fights leading up to it have some more substance. I've already blocked out one fight that uses 10900 HP, and I was starting to get concerned that there wouldn't be enough left over to give the final fight its due fanfare.

So, before I jump into this community project, I tried getting used to the custom texture set, in order to do that, I tried some designs done within 30 minutes total :

I think these look pretty decent

 

I do have one question, can we use any game configuration like UDMF, or is it limited to one specific game configuration, I haven't seen it mentionned anywhere

Yes, MBF21, as @Novaseer has replied. About the textures, you can use Doom 2 stock textures and the ones that are in this package only (it is also in the main post): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GUFW1tF5oAKns5SEc9tmTEUbIez7CXRM/view?usp=sharing

 

This project deals with some limitations as its premise. Do more with less: make interesting levels strict to a limit of monster HP and a specific set of textures 

 

Only skyboxes that you can add yours if you want. However there are many in the source textures wad above. You will most likely find some interesting skies there...

I thought I had a good idea with the tag 666 of map 7 but not really in the end, not really compatible with the restriction.

 

I don't want to make something rush and uninspired, and i want to focus and personnel project

Curious... I can't seem to find MBF21 as a game configuration in gzdoom builder, i'll have to do some more digging, or it is just not available in gzdoom builder, who knows.

 

Also yes, I re-read the main post and saw the info that I missed, but i'm already on board with the rest of what i'm allowed to do and the premise of what this project is

You need to use Ultimate Doom Builder - it's the updated version of GZDoom Builder.

@realjohnmadden, do you allow me working with you in your map09? I guess you had nice ideas there, and I guess that map can become 2 or 3 split. If you like the idea, we can join together. I can make some modifications, lower the monster quantity and show you. You have a very good first arena combat, and I would like to use that in our wad! What do you think?

Ok, no problem. I will take the slot 7. I have drafted an alternate map07 yesterday and have it about half done already in UDB. This won't be the best Dead Simple tribute, but it is gonna work and, mainly, it is fast to make this map, won't cost me too much time.
