Destiny 2 as of 2023

A few years ago, when Destiny 2 became free to play, I downloaded it and played through the Red War campaign. I thought it was alright, save for the occasional overleveled enemies that would have required me to get the then-latest expansion pack in order to increase the level cap, but not enough to buy the game. After a while, I lost interest and soon after the game reportedly went through some massive changes - even cutting large chunks of the game, including not just Red War but also quite a few pieces of downloadable content.

The game is currently being offered on EGS and I was wondering if it is still worth checking out.

I wouldn't bother. I loved Destiny 2, but over the years the game has gotten worse from when I used to play it on Battle.net. And it launched terribly to begin with, so to wrap around back to this is something special. Its free, so ultimately, your time is your time but reconsider spending any money on this game in the long term. Bungie going through dire straits right now isn't helping, but as a longtime Destiny fan, they've had it coming for awhile.

I have some 300 hour play time on destiny 2, I joined about when the witch queen came out, I would say the gameplay loop is fun, and the gun play is nice, i had some fun grinding, but I reach the bottleneck for free2play player, and it becomes extremely repetitive.

I think it's worth the time before the bottleneck if you going free2play

here's a unpopular opinion: the cosmetics for characters are really ugly, don't spent cents on them.

I wouldn't bother with it.

I have played a fair bit of Destiny and Destiny 2 but the game just progressively got worse, not only that but over time the game's already aggressive hostile monetization methods got monumentally worse after Shadowkeep.

Not worth a second look for me.

The game constantly demanding about 30$ every few months for 80% of the new content is a good enough reason not to come back to it, especially if a few years down the line they just release it all for free.

It's a fun game and I enjoyed it a lot during the Dreaming City era, but the last time I tried to come back I played for about 30 minutes before being paywalled and I just dipped out ever since.
