Newbie mapper asking for help

I'm new to doomworld/mapping/doom in general and I imagine this sorta topic has come up thousands of times so I'll try to be quick:

 

1. I really want to at least be able to check out the UDMF features (I'm practicing on the boom setting, but im on gzd) but when I go to turn it on, it asks for gzdoom.pk3. Do i have to do some file conversion or something?

 

2. How do you change the music to mp3s, I know how to skirt around the copyright rules but I'd just like to know how to use the feature IAAP

 

3. Where do I find/add custom textures, I've pretty much played doom levels that only use the basic stuff and my shotty eyeballs hurt from it

 

4. is there a way to turn off the cacodemons flying into orbit to fireball me from space (gzdoom)

 

5. is there a category in the textures menu for skyboxes (this is mainly in the case of custom textures)

 

6. Did I post this in the right place? I'd be looking preeetty stupid right now if not lol

Any of these questions can be answered by using GZDoom Doom2 (UDMF).

 

1. Select gzdoom.pk3 for GZDoom maps so that the editor can find the GZDoom features.

Also tick Exclude this Resource ...

 

UDMF is a mapping standard in text format to replace the previous formats to simplify

many mapping chores to keystroke actions.

 

2. The best way is something like Audacity

I suggest using ogg instead of mp3

 

3. Do a search here and on ZDoom forum for texture packs.

Also check Realm667 

 

4. Customize specific actors with Inheritance.

 

5. Do a search for sky textures, in general skies are just simple images,

either 256x128 for 1 quadrant, 512x128 for semi circle or 1024x128 for full circle

or apply skybox
