Which nodebuilder is best, for what purposes, and why?

DoomGappy

Question

Opened the nodebuilder configuration to check which options were available and got a bit confused. Which ones are the most used and useful?

I can't answer much, but everytime I had unknown graphical glitches in my maps, slime trails, wonky collision etc(one time I reached a line limit or something and every new sector I made after that point had no collision, or it looked like you would get sucked into it when close) I switched to,

ZDBSP Compressed nodes (udmf) (large maps)

Emphasis on large maps cuz they get real wonky if you don't have the right node builder.

depends on the map format. for vanilla doom, if you intend to use lots of self-referencing sectors to make "3d bridges" etc, imo it is good to use [bsp-w32]. from personal experience, if you use the default node builder and you made more than 1 "3d bridge", only the last bridge would work properly while other earlier bridges would become buggy. however, [bsp-w32] does not come without its fair share of drawbacks, like being noticeably a bit slow when building nodes. i guess every node builder has its own pros and cons - i tried searching for a table with such info for easy comparison between the nodes, but to no avail. just my 2 cents, hope it helps and best of luck :)

I can't believe this; I've been working on a bit more complex 3d bridge for hours, I've done the area from scratch three times, and still I was getting strange behavior in one particular section of it. Then I see this comment about bsp-w32, switched to it, and now my bridge works exactly as it should work. (Thanks!)
