Desolation: a doom Community Project (Mappers, Musicians, and Artists needed)

(DEADLINE: AUGUST 15th 2024 OR WHEN EVERYTHING IS DONE) Desolation is a BOOM 2.02-compatible Community Megawad Project which will have have maps of varying quality, beware that you will NEED to know the fundamentals of doom mapping and what makes a map good. Artists will be needed for the ENDOOM Lump, title screen, M_DOOM Graphic, M_SKULL(1 and 2) Graphic, cast screen background (aka BOSSBACK) and intermission screen. (This Community Project's target IWAD is doom 2)

 

Guidelines (This will get updated if a guideline is missing.):

1. Please make original midis for this wad. (if your not good at midi composing you can ignore this one.)

2. These maps will make use of only original doom 2 textures.

3. Please only make boom or vanilla compatible maps.

4. Please test your maps in a boom compatible Sourceport, like PRBoom+ or ReBOOM (Which is a windows port of BOOM 2.02.)

5. Map 15 NEEDS to have a way to get to Map31 and map31 has to have a way to get to map32

6. If your a known serial plagiarizer absolutely NONE of your Submissions will be accepted

7. No UDMF or Hexen format maps. UDMF will straight up ruin ZDaemon compatibility if it is used

8. If you define a custom sky for a map please use the MBF sky transfer and not ZMAPINFO because it will only work with GZDoom if you use ZMAPINFO.

9. No custom weapons, they aren't really needed

10. Please don't put SS Soldiers in maps other than the secret maps.

 

Suggestions for maps:

1. a desert-like or tech base theme,

2. maps should get harder as the wad goes

3. big or small, your map should be able to be compiled into this unless there's a problem, which i will point out if there is one.

4. if music was added to the slot of your map, you should make sure your map fits with the music.

FYI, D_MESSAG by default is the music lump for MAP20 and D_READ_M plays during all text screens.

Map01 and Map32 can be replaced, they were just meant to make the wad actually have a playable level, basically a placeholder

Sounds like a nice project, it's from the time of CC4 i didn't see a community effort targetting DOS Boom 2.02 as designed source Port afaik, just some questions:

  • Is themes free, i assume? I mean, people can do whatever type of map they want like the Mega or Maximum megawads, or It have to do something with the titular "desolation" of the project?

Do you have a vision for what this project will actually be, and do you think you're capable of properly leading a project at this point in time? It's not easy. Also, it doesn't seem like you have any real plan here, no themes or direction for people to follow and not even a few solid maps ready before posting. All I see is "make some maps", which is not very compelling. In general you're asking far too much of people (a full megawad with a full custom soundtrack) while offering far too little. I'm recommending that you build up some experience in the community before you try this sort of thing again.

by the midi thing i didn't mean non-composers making music for their own map. what i meant by that is somebody can choose a midi slot to compose for and having it be an original creation from them.
