dsda-doom rewind key (0.27.5)

Recommended Posts

So I just upgraded to the version mentioned above and I got a problem with rewind.

I don't quite understand the behaviour but I usually get yeeted back to my last load instead of going back frame by frame as it was before..

Settings say interval is 1 second but that's not what i get. Tried messing aroung with depth (which I don't understand either) but then it just said

"no key frame found"

am I missing anything crucial here?

edit: seems to be a bug because sometimes it works just fine

Sounds like you might be getting hit with the "Slow Key Framing" message which tends to happen if you're not consistently getting a high frame rate? I think?

Speaking of which, does anyone know if the tolerance for that be changed?

I believe you can set it so that it always saves a key frame regardless.

Where? I failed to find that option last time I checked 😅

You have to set "Rewind timeout" to 0 (4th page inside Options -> General, under "Quality of Life").

Here is a rewind rundown for anyone who doesn't understand the individual options:
Rewind Interval (S) = Interval between each given rewind keyframe, in full seconds. ie: you set this to 5, DSDA-Doom will save a rewind keyframe every 5 seconds and you will only be able to rewind back in 5 second intervals.

Rewind Depth = How many rewind keyframes are stored in total. ie: you set this to 10 and keep the aforementioned Rewind Interval to 5, you'll be able to rewind back 50 seconds in 5 second intervals.

Rewind Timeout (MS) = How long DSDA-Doom will attempt to store a rewind keyframe, in milliseconds, timing out if it takes too long. This option mostly exists because it can get very intensive in large slaughter maps and cause frame drops if you have a very short Rewind Interval like 1 second.

For most maps you should be fine with the defaults of 1 second interval, 60 depth, and 10ms timeout, but if you're getting the timed out message, then consider raising your interval, lowering your depth, and/or raising the timeout.
