What developer would you trust with the Doom IP?

Recommended Posts

All of them. No, I'm serious. License the IP out to almost any company who wants to make a Doom game, like Games Workshop does with Warhammer. Sure, we'll get a few bad Doom games, but we'd also get plenty of good Doom games with different designers' takes on the franchise that try all kinds of stuff we wouldn't see with a single developer at the helm.

Epic Games.

Dead ass serious with this one.

Explanation:

Epic made fucking Unreal (The BEST FPS game ever don't you dare combat with me on this), along with Unreal Tournament, and has only made good games since. Fortnite, although a game that's silly, has the BEST movement in ANY game ever. Sliding and running to cover, then shooting down 5 players in the span of a few seconds is satisfying as fuck. The only bad thing Epic would do is monetize it to the bone, but lets be real here, they would only do the optional stuff that doesn't effect the gameplay.

I imagine the game they would create is a Co-op DOOM experience similar to those rare ass servers on DOOM Explorer (You know, has a hub, selection of levels, it's the most notable scene I can think of when it comes to a mainstream DOOM Co-op game.), along with Deathmatch. Since Epic has been pushing their Unreal Engine stuff, it would also be sick to see them do that with this game, as players could create custom maps and levels.

Damn the more I conceptualize this, the more badass it sounds.

mmm just solo devs or tiny indies tbh. gimme doom by a pair of portuguese amiga developers or something

money doesn't seem to result in good games lately imo plus the corps love treating their employees like shit so i'd feel guilty even if they made a good one

Hard disagree. They could have left Unreal and UT well enough alone, but delisting the games from Steam and GOG and removing the master servers shows an active effort to memoryhole them. If that's how Epic treats their legacy that put them on the map in the late 90s, what makes you think they'll treat Doom (an IP from a former rival) any better? They don't even treat the IPs they bought any better, if complaints about Rocket League and Fall Guys and Rock Band are any indication.

Probably Valve. Could make a killer story for the game.

Valve doesn't make games. They buy indie studios who have made a game and then tell them to stop.

Arkane Lyon (Arx Fatalis, Dark Messiah of Might & Magic, Dishonored 2, Dishonored Death of the Outsider, Deathloop), Arkane Austin (Prey 2017, Redfall), or both at once (Dishonored 1)?

What's with the lack of love for Croteam? They've attempted to make a pitch for DOOM 4 (some of the materials eventually got placed at SS3: BFE), at the very least let's also acknowledge that.
