macOS Game Mode Thoughts

Is anyone playing GZDoom on macOS? I'm trying the new game mode, which is enabled by default... It's very subtle, but it feels like performance is slightly worse ON than OFF.

 

Does anyone else have any views?

When I hear "new game mode", I think something like GZDoom suddenly including Capture the Flag by default or something, which I'm pretty sure wasn't what you meant.

 

Could you care to elaborate what you were referring to specifically that makes performance worse?

I don't have a modern Mac, but from what I've seen it just makes the game a higher priority task, so if I had to guess, the performance gains are within margin of error.

@dobu gabu maru is a Mac user, though IIRC he uses Boot Camp or VMWare to do all his mapping and Dooming on Windows. Ribbiks, though gone from DW, is another active Mac user who does his Doom work on Windows, IIRC using VMWar. I'm sure there are other Mac users here. I was one myself, and had a Mac Pro running OS X and Windows XP through Boot Camp. That was years ago. I miss that machine. It was exceptionally reliable, at once the best Mac and PC I ever had.

Nah. I played a lot of wads in college back on my old mac laptop but when it came to mapping I used the family's Windows XP machine at home. I would still play other wads on my mac and post to here occasionally, but once I got my own PC I never went back.

In GZDoom I haven't noticed much difference.
