Death Bear Posted January 15 (edited) Celebrate Doommas with Pineapple Under the Sea Studios! 30 MBF21 Maps for Doom 2! RC1 Download HERE (Google Drive) Happy New Year, you filthy animals! I woke up from hibernation just long enough to ship you a late Doommas gift. Created from December 21st through the 24th of 2023, PUSS XXXIV brings you 30 Doommas maps split evenly into two episodes. Santa Bear asked mappers which list they wanted to be on, and the response was this lovely little megawad that we put together. We used the Enhanced Christmas Resource with a few extras to set the tone for our first ever MBF21-format event, and each map was made in 2 hours or less. Target Port is DSDA."The Nice List" features more easy-going maps that heavily feature our cuddly bunny friends running amok as we slay demons. Perfect for those who want to enjoy a "chill" Christmas-themed wad. We've even got a bunny race in this episode! Probably the cutest thing I've ever played in Doom. "The Naughty List" provides some intense maps that are generally more "cooked". (Scionox said "Christmas Peaks" may be the hardest PUSS map he's made. That's saying something.) Some of these have difficulty settings, so if you can't handle the UV-heat, then consider dropping down. If micro-slaughter, slaughter, lots of Cyberdemons and Archviles, and combat puzzles are your jam, this is the episode for you. If not, you've been forewarned and I'm not responsible for your tears on stream come next December. They only fuel my rage for Doommas #5. With 20 contributing mappers, we made Pineapple Under the Sea's 4th Doommas celebration an enjoyable one. We mapped fast. I know I enjoyed drinking hot coffee and mapping. A lot of you probably won't get around to this until next season, but I'll be keeping an eye out as we get there. As always, we want to thank all of our playtesters for helping us catch and fix stuff. A few of you streamed this, and we really appreciate it! I hope you all enjoyed yourself along the way! As always, I want to thank the mappers and the event staff at Pineapple Under the Sea for all of your hard work in helping this get to the finish line quickly. A particular shoutout to Peccatum, who crafted us a lovely ENDOOM. Mappers, once again, please check over your work and be the eye-in-the-sky for me as we get ready for idgames release. Anyone out there deciding to play a Christmas wad in mid-January, please report any bugs you might find. If I missed your credit, I apologize...just let me know and I'll fix it. Logamuffin Posted January 16 I marathoned this since I'm an insane person and completed it in like 3 hours or so. Nice episode was nice, some fun short maps to get through pretty fast. The naughty episode, on the other hand, was very unpleasant (maybe it's just my dislike of slaughter idk). Some other notes: - I had to cheat to finish Map28 because the bars in the Yellow Key room don't work. - I also had to cheat to finish Map26, though I'm unsure if this is due to the map being broken or the progression just being really opaque. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
MoiraHeart Posted January 16 Bunny Race is an actual work of art. 8 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks for that Logamuffin. I thought those bars were being finicky. Now I figured out why. I've uploaded a hotfix for that issue. Thanks so much! Last I knew MAP26 was fine, but I'll be sure to check it out. Edit: MAP26 seems fine. I was just able to complete it. I will say that on my first playthrough, it wasn't clear that the... Spoiler wooden bars are immediately and repeatedly lowerable. Once you get to the room with the HKs on the ledge, which is the last fight, you have to grab the megasphere to start the fight. IDK if that's where you were stuck or not, but everything seems in order on my end. Edited January 16 by Death Bear 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Your description didn't match the map I was thinking of so I went back and checked and I got the map number wrong! The map I was thinking of was actually Map24: Christmas Dreams. My bad. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
apichatpong Posted January 16 (edited) Well well well… as a late Grinch I could start by saying that « Gneugneugneuh » I don’t like these Christmas wads - and Christmas’s balls cacodemons or pain elementals (plus, also, green elves) are not strangers to this negative feeling - but this collection of short maps was a real pleasure to play ! (And in fact still is, since I’m slowly going my way on the naughty part) Sometimes, I feel humbled (not sure if it’s the right word in English, I don’t want to let you think it’s negative) by some players saying « this wad was nice coffee break » or « great chilling one » when I’m struggling with the maps they refer to… Now, with the « nice episode », I understand and really appreciate the feeling ! But it’s not coffee break nor chill, it’s just really NICE, it’s Christmas just after Christmas or way before Christmas : it’s everyday Christmas* ! Some maps are overloaded on goodies (ammo or items) and this make the trip all sugar (and a bit lemon), astonishingly energetic, visually always pleasant, musically tasty. It made me feel like in one of my childhood’s dream : making a trip through the North Pole on a sled led by huskies, comfortably numbed under a mountain of warm blankets protecting me from blizzard. Then, as a return to civilization, the naughty part starts, slowly but intensely. I’m still working on it and maybe won’t be able to finish every map, but despite the « grand écart » I feel very well in there. I feel very well in this wad made only on 3 days. Thanks. * to be perfectly honest, at some point, due to bad gameplay, I found myself with only 1HP facing some pinkies, imps, cacos and revenants (it was the end of map 06)… not very chill… but due to the numbing kindness of the wad first part (must be the bunnies) I didn’t stress and was able to survive. S3M_XM Posted January 17 I've started this last night and finished it recently, the nice list are relaxing maps with some kick to it in some maps, and bunny race is a nice touch. Although I don't mind slaughter and combat puzzles (to a extent), the naughty list shows off that. I've reported multiple reports during my playthrough on Nugget Doom 2.3.1. Spoiler MAP08: There's an Imp (Thing 66) stuck and can't use his range attacks and the megaspheres and the soulspheres feel too generous. MAP09: The megasphere secret in HNTR feels too generous. MAP11: If you drop down and go that's closest to the wall, you don't get the shotgun and overlooking it at the start. MAP12: Slime trail. MAP18: One of the large brown trees bleeds through the stairs given in this image. MAP26: I don't know if the invulnerability sphere should be replaced with a megasphere in HNTR, there's no point having a Megasphere if the invulnerability sphere is there. 23 hours ago, Logamuffin said: - I had to cheat to finish Map28 because the bars in the Yellow Key room don't work. I was aware about this before I got to this map, somehow it worked for me on a specific sector shown here: Spoiler I'm guessing they're too close each other? 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
poopoodemon Posted February 6 Thoroughly enjoyed the "Nice" episode. Excellent balance! The Naughty episode was just boring mass monster spamming like 99% of other maps so I skipped that one. Great job though, loved the sprites and sound effects. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
