vyruss Posted January 22 I'm some braindead corpo software engineer for a fortune 500. Don't follow your fucking dreams, kids. People who tell you "if you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life" are full of shit and lied by omission the part about how things that bring you joy lose their flair when all they begin to matter is the paycheck and benefits. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

NuMetalManiak Posted January 23 Try being a teacher in the USA for the middle grades. Then come back to me. Spoiler Administrators want you to be LITERAL ALWAYS-DO-GOOD GOD(DESSE)S to everything in the environment where kids are at their most active and unpredictable, and the admins love watching every move for any potential screwup that can be put on your part (emphasis on "put on your part" btw). You also don't get free time due to sub shortages and they pull your break period away because others leave for good and you're left to figure out how to clean up their mess. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ChaseC7527 Posted January 23 Michaels, pretty good, managers ain't that bad and I haven't ran into a rude customer yet, will be moving to construction soon though. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
thiccyosh Posted January 23 I used to work in retail for a short time (two months, part-time and got full-time shifts lol), and I've seen everything (or at least 95%). From Karens to braindead customers, coworkers that either even deader inside than me or bitch about everything and scold everyone that can't read their mind or, god forbid, wanted to use the restroom. And I got the really shitty shifts noone wanted to ever do. 4 to 9 more often than not which doesn't sound too bad, but that totally didn't fuck over my sleep schedule for the next 3 months and sometimes actually got 9 to 5. And they fired me with a very condesending note. The manager working there is a fucking asshole and I wish him the worst that can ever happen to anyone. May his children drown in their septic tank. I don't regret stealing their comfy workclothes I still wear to this day. To the members here that work in retail or have no other choice, I can only say that I feel bad for you. I hope you will someday find something that makes you happy in the long run :) Now? Unemployed, awaiting my 4 month long internship so I can hopefully study engineering in September. Just so I can do cool shit in the future with a decent pay if I'm lucky. 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

Eric Claus Posted January 23 Took some time but eventually I got a 2 year in bookkeeping/accounting and that's what I do for various companies in various ways. Current company is probably going to be the longest lasting of them and usually its always smaller businesses so that comes with a fair share of other admin work as well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
bobstremglav Posted January 23 Was working few months at shop as kind of guy who will lift hard stuff for 12 hours. Fuck this. Now I work at school kitchen (small stuff like cleaning tables, helping to others) sucks less, but this is still power consuming, because you barely have time to even shit. Other workers are great, but our higher tiers seems like think that we literally do nothing, while they come at much later time and sit whole time, doing paper stuff. Not talking that their job is useless, but something with their attitude, not only towards me, but also chef helper who have even harder stuff. Complicated stuff, but I hope it will rule out. Especially for you 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
TheMagicMushroomMan Posted January 23 A smoke shop employee, then construction and roofing, now helping to manage two hotels and doing small jobs for many others. I get paid to work at hotels so I can spend all my money... paying to live in a hotel... that I work at. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

Because dude, I literally know C (And have made a Doom launcher in it) and am learning Rust. Programming and tech jobs and all that are just nepotism networking. The one connection I had in the industry was a 30-something year old furry I "knew" that went to court for diddlin'. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
StalkerBlade Posted January 25 I’ve been doing electrical work for about 10 years now. It’s definitely not the career path I wanted to do and I’d like to get out of doing it and actually do what I want to do for a living…as cool as a lot of people probably think a job like that is, it’s not as glamorous as one would think. Your percentage of returning home alive at the end of the day is a bit reduced because of what you’re working with and just the general attitudes you get in construction work is pretty trash (especially in commercial work). I had also gotten involved in a freak electrical accident that legitimately should’ve killed me at the last company I was working at. It’s a literal miracle I’m still here…that company in particular was astonishingly terrible as well; the only bonus or anything I had gotten for handling 90% of the jobs for over a year was a $100 dollar bill Christmas bonus. I don’t miss working there and I won’t miss this career when I can leave it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

GoldenDragonLord Posted January 27 I work in retail as an assistant manager in a small supermarket. Not the worst job in the world but I'm kinda sick of it, I've been there way too long. Been wanting a new job for a while but I don't have any qualifications and haven't had the energy to look for another job lmao. I'm planning on leaving this year and getting into a career I actually enjoy. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
