RentonSuperior Posted January 24, 2024 In the General options under "Miscellaneous", DSDA-Doom allows the user to change the default compatibility level to different versions of the Doom engine. What's confusing me is the word "default" here. Is the complevel subject to change depending on which WADs are being loaded even if I set this to a specific value like MBF21 and I load a WAD which predates MBF21's existence? Also, if this option is set to "DEFAULT", onto which complevel is this falling back? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
NightFright Posted January 24, 2024 (edited) I would assume it's the highest available, i.e. MBF21, but it's indeed unclear and potentially misleading. At least I doubt there's a way to autodetect the necessary complevel in any way. Personally, I usually set it to "Boom" in the menu and operate with -complevel parameters or COMPLVL lumps if needed. If I understood correctly, you just need this until you save your game for the first time. After that it's stored in the savegame file. plums Posted January 25, 2024 (edited) What version of dsda-doom is that? In the most recent stable version, 0.27.5, "default" is not an option. In any case this was presumably inherited from PrBoom+, where "default" meant PrB+'s latest (and in that case port-specific) compatibility settings, so it probably means MBF21. I just checked, and this IS... 0.24.3, NANI?! Wow, I must have downloaded 0.27.5, but had Doom Explorer still pointing to the old .exe. I'm glad you said something! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Gregor Posted February 4, 2024 Note that DSDA will only use whatever is specified here if you do not force a complevel through a parameter in a batch file or your launcher of choice, AND the PWAD in question does not contain a COMPLVL lump, which will otherwise overwrite the default compatibility set in the menu as well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
