StarZone (MBF + UMAPINFO, 2 Map Demo)

StarZone is a Doom 2 mapset that I started a few weeks ago. (Okay, it technically started a few months before that, but it was barely anything at that point). It primarily uses CC4-Tex. It's MBF-compatible for now and needs either UMAPINFO or ZMAPINFO to work properly. In the future, I might bump it up to MBF21 if I ever need an advanced feature or two.

 

This release just contains the first two maps, which are the only maps I've finished for this so far. They're both techbases, and difficulty-wise are probably somewhere in-between Doom 2 and Plutonia, though I'm really bad at judging the difficulty of my own maps, so take this with a grain of salt. Both of these maps are relatively short, each only requiring two keys. Difficulty settings are implemented. There are no co-op or deathmatch starts in these. I don't plan on supporting co-op, but for a few select smaller maps, including the ones featured in this demo, I plan to support deathmatch later down the road. All of the maps in this WAD are designed with pistol starts in mind, and continuous hasn't been tested.

 

My end goal is for this to have 15-20 maps. As of writing this, 10 more maps are under development, four of which are essentially done but are lacking polish. I plan to release more demos of this as I finish more maps. The two maps I've included here are likely in their final slots, but this won't be guaranteed for further maps I release.

 

This demo was primarily tested with DSDA-Doom 0.26.2, with some brief testing in GZDoom 4.8.2. DSDA-Doom is highly recommended, but some considerations have been made for Z-port users as well, most notably jumping, crouching and freelook are disabled.

32in24-15_tex_v2.wad is REQUIRED to be loaded alongside the demo (it must be loaded before StarZone, not after). You can get it here: https://esselfortium.net/wasd/32in24-15_tex_v2.zip The final version won't require any seperate PWADs to be loaded.

I made the custom TITLEPIC, INTERPIC and M_DOOM, the former two of which are based on the SKYSPACE sky from CC4-Tex.
In addition to 32in24-15_tex, a couple textures from lostres by Xaser and NaturalTvventy were used.
@Melodic Spaceship made the ZMAPINFO and generally helped out with ZDoom support.

CWILVxx graphics were generated with the Doom Text Generator.

These were fun to play. Good combat and some nice little traps. Only issue I noticed was missing textures on either side of the map01 exit door. fda demos attached. Sorry for the crap playing, I've had a couple of drinks 😜.

Only watched the first demo so far, but I think I know the problem--You need to load cc4-tex before my wad. Loading it after will cause the texture definitions from cc4-tex to be used, which doesn't include the custom texture I used on the exit door. I'll update the OP with this information.

Edit: Watched the other demo. Both of them were very entertaining. Thanks for playing!

It's been over 2 months since I released the first demo, so I think I'll give a little update (as well as letting a few more unsuspecting people find the current demo :P). I was hoping to have another 2 maps released by now, but I spent the entire month working on a Doom 1 episode WAD instead. It's likely I'll cut this down to around 10 maps to make it more managable for me to complete. I don't know when I'll get back to working on this, but my goal is to get this finished by the end of the summer. Oh also I've added textures from several resources (TNT Revilution, jimmytex, greenwar2-tex, cagetex).
