Anyone Else Remembers Twisted Metal?

I've been on a Twisted Metal roll lately, watching lots of videos about it. Those games are insanely fun, especially in co-op matches. Soon my semester will be over, and I plan to gather some good pals of mine and just have a great time blowing each other up! It's a real shame how long the franchise has stayed dormant... Maybe the show generated enough interest? We'll have to wait and see. And speaking about the show itself, is it any good? I personally haven't watched it. Anyways, feel free to share your thoughts about the series, like favorite vehicles/levels/games.

I'll personally share this, so people who have never heard of TM can witness it's full glory. This is a secret boss character in the second game absolutely demolishing the regular cast in the single-player campaign. Talk about a Cybie fragging zombiemen lol

I've never had the pleasure of playing Twisted Metal however I have heard nothing but praise.

I am more familiar with the bizarre story behind Twisted Metal Lost and the whole letter sent by dead developers telling Sony to release what they made after a plane crash, which is obviously not true but an interesting way to explain why it was included as additional content.

I have not played it myself either, but I have seen the cutscenes of most games because I was told that they revolved around a character similar to the movie Wishmaster's titular villain, an odd but interesting choice for what looks like a gritty take on Mario Kart's Battle Mode.

Twisted+Metal+Black+Mr+Grimm.jpgReally enjoyed Twisted Metal Black the most but did like the ones prior to it. Haven’t played the ones after TMB. Awesome multiplayer. Really liked the dark feeling of the character plot lines. Mr. Grimm was my favorite.

It's kind of hard not to if you knew literally anything about PlayStation in the 90s. Not to say I played it more than a few times but it's a franchise you can't really escape the impact of at the time.

I played Twisted Metal 2 a few times and had a blast even with the jank car handling. Nuts to getting hit by that freeze attack, though. I'm no metalhead, but that Los Angeles track felt strangely uplifting to me.

I remember looking up the endings on Youtube and feeling most of them were a little too mean-spirited for my tastes. That was some dark monkey's paw-type stuff, even if the player characters were mostly assholes of some stripe. And of course that guy rubbing it in by thanking you for playing.

Yeah! I used to play Twisted Metal 2 when I was a kid, on many of the old computers I used. I personally picked the motorbike skeleton dude because of my familiarity of motorcycle racing such as Road Rash.

So, I finally introduced my classmates to Twisted Metal 2, and guess what? They actually really enjoyed it and said it was a sick game! Really proves how timeless it is, the fact it was released all the way back in 1996 and yet more than 25 years later we still had a complete blast playing it. They weren't even retro gamers or anything! One thing I found funny was how one of them recognized Sweet Tooth from his appearance in Rocket League. Well, now he knows where he came from!

  • 1 month later...

Small update: I'm considering doing a Twisted Metal inspired game as a project for one of my courses. I'll see what I'll be able to do, if it ends up something half-decent I might even show the end result later on. What can I say, I really find this game and its concept very engaging!

I've somehow never played a single game in this series, to my partner's dismay, but I HAVE played something that was called a knockoff of it, Vigilante 8. (Where I wondered where the other 7 games were..)

Maybe I'll get around to it one day, but I feel like at this point, its a 'you had to be there at the time' kind of thing.
