Have you lost interest on DOOM?

Recommended Posts

I have seen a lot of accounts that are dated back in early to mid 2010s and even 2000s. These are very old players of DOOM, I'm just wondering if people have lost interest on DOOM after all these years?

oh no...i've become Very Old...

anyways, if we're here to read this thread, why do you think that we've lost interest? a lot of others have, sure, but they probably wouldn't be in the doom general subforum if they had actually lost interest :p

I want to ask you a question. What keeps you playing DOOM?. For me because it's entertaining

If you're playing DOOM for entertainment then the others are playing DOOM for entertainment. They aren't trying to ascend their spirituality to the next level with it.

It's just that you can create WAD'S. It's good

Do you find normal DOOM entertaining or the modded version?

Immediately after its release in 1993, Doom attracted a sizeable following of players who created their own mods for WAD files—packages containing new levels or graphics—and played a vital part in spawning the mod-making culture which is now commonplace for first-person shooter games.

Not really, but sometimes, higher priorities were a thing at different points in my life.

I think you mean other people and it's like, possibly? but also, people just move on sometimes and can't be bothered to really come back. Like why would prominent members like Cyb and Agent Spork depart? idk, but some people either lose interest or just fall out with the community.

No wonder why DOOM is one of the most modded game of all time

I’ve taken two 5 year breaks from Doom (was just busy with other stuff in life) but I always feel the itch to make maps again.

Have i lost interest in Doom...... Hmmm.

Old Doom: I've made maps, been apart of one community project (hopefully be apart of another one someday), made a solo ultimate doom mega wad (still working on), made videos on old doom maps and finally got to met veteran forum people on here that still play the classic to this day. No sir, i have not.

New Doom: Love 2016, loved eternal.......right up to the point i got bored with it.

Overall Old Doom: No i have not lost interest for a 30+ year old game. New Doom: i have since it doesn't have the same feel to it like the classic dose and plus i'm still mad they didn't try doing the multi player stuff for eternal but instated a 1v2 battle mode which was ok but i rather go around blastin' like a insane person then get pinned by two demons that want to have there way with me and not in the "UwU" way either.

Swings and roundabouts. My interest in DOOM is very much characterised by having a couple of months of insane hyperfixation at a time, on semi-regular intervals; interspersed with the 'burnout' months of little playing, no mapping, occasional forum lurking and posting. Which is where I'm at right now, didn't even finish Eviternity II but I'll get around to it sooner or later.

Also, 2000's signup date, YEAH BOIIII.

I think one thing that keeps people's interest in doom long term, other than nostalgia, is that it's a game people are well familiar with that constantly has high quality, new material being made for it. You don't have to learn new controls, new mechanics, or strats, but there is always the possibility of being pleasantly surprised by new innovations over the years. Stuff like turning an enemy into a chicken in heretic so they walk under a low ceiling to open a door to a secret for you is so memorable and fun, let alone the amazing vistas people make to frame their art with. And doom is art. Creating stuff and seeing the creations of others is fun to do, which I think is another facet of what keeps interest long term.

Yeah, kinda. But, I like to think I'm very gradually finding ways back into it. I've been slowly going through Eviternity, after the sequel was released. There's been very long breaks in-between, but that's just how I play games in general really.

Of course, I and people's interests change, and that's ok. Doom and all of its cool maps and mods will still be there for you to play, whenever you return. If you rush through it all, it'd probably be less fun anyway.

Take your time, this ain't a job.

Sometimes I do, after getting out of ideas for a map, or just being stuck in a particular map I can't complete saveless, sometimes is just vain burn out. But yes, never manages to be more than something temporary.

I was 13 when DooM shareware got leaked and I've been playing ever since. I've lost interest in relationships and friendships more than I have in DooM.
