Decay Posted February 4 (edited) Download WANG The proletariat of the MXU Discord were hard at work for a few days to bring 32 maps of 1990s FUN. Featuring: 100% Vanilla compatibility! Inconsistent map sizes! Single player and Multiplayer compatibility! Symmetrical arenas! Obligatory spam maps! Iwad remixes! Lazy Imports! And many, many more! (Not including pistol starts) This was not at all inspired by Dwango or recent mapsets inspired by Dwango. It is primarily a DM wad with SP and Coop compatibility, so if you play it SP first and wonder what's up that's why it is the way it is. Some maps doubled the play arena to be SP specific, others did not. Great for quick Maxes if you like that. The Wang team is: @Argent Agent, @HeavenWraith @Razgriz @Synami and myself. ~FEEDBACK WELCOME AND APPRECIATED~ Screenshots: Download Edited February 19 by Decay 51 Quote Share this post Link to post
Downcologo one Posted February 4 The truth looks pretty good do you know who are the creators of the maps? that would be great. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Decay Posted February 4 Yes they are DM maps first with Sp/Coop being secondary, with some maps taking that bit more seriously. For DM they should be pretty playable. Admitted not great but considering each map was done in 30 minutes or less it should be pretty okay for a quick jam. Just like DM wads from the 90s. 4 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fonze Posted February 4 Epic shitpost in wad form 😂😂 but these do unironically look fun. Would love to give these a try! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted February 5 I played through all the maps (didn't complete MAP15 though). Love it when people drop monsters into DM maps, it's a very Doom thing to do. I can imagine these making for some fun episode/max runs. Here are a couple minor bug reports: MAP04: Lines 776 and 778 are missing textures. MAP05: One of the secrets is duplicated to the deathmatch arena, making it impossible to get all secrets. MAP12: The revenant in the end room is duplicated to the deathmatch arena, making it impossible to get all kills. MAP14: Two monsters in closets don't appear to do anything? MAP31: No secret exit? Maybe just change the normal exit to a secret exit so MAP32 is accessible. It'd be nice to mark the countable items in the deathmatch arenas as multiplayer-only so they don't mess up the item counter for single player (can't do anything about co-op, though). It's not a big deal, there are unobtainable items anyway that I can only assume are for decoration (invulns on MAP01 and MAP18, computer area map on MAP20), but I mention this since it seems to have already been done in some maps (e.g. MAP07), but not others. The maps that have single player items in deathmatch areas are maps 10, 12, 15, 31, 23, and 30 (the piles of items that are given to the voodoo dolls for co-op, one of them is marked as multiplayer only but two of them aren't). 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Decay Posted February 5 Thanks for the feedback - I'll pass it along to have it addressed and see what can be done. Coop is worth considering fixing too, I tried to make at least my maps interesting for coop max runs by placing the player starts around the map sometimes to force different routing/planning. I did place some power-ups in unreachable places because it's also very 1990s DM to do. BUT I'm willing to rectify that for 100%'s across the board (some maps need some secrets rectified as well. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Walter confetti Posted February 5 Played until MAP09 yesterday on SP campaign as well as other few maps, what a delightful 90s experience, it's like Dwango and random DM maps from old times, but without the typical bugs of 90s DM mapping. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Decay Posted February 8 Here is RC2 -All issues raised resolved (I think) -All maps should have a secret and an item -Moved around more of my Coop player starts Probably going to upload to /idgames this weekend if no additional issues are found. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Shepardus Posted February 8 (edited) The monsters in the MAP14 closets still seem to be unable to teleport out in complevel 2 (works in cl9). Might be a matter of making the teleport lines repeatable, but I didn't test that. The unobtainable computer area map in MAP20 is still there, as are the items in the deathmatch arenas in the levels I mentioned. Again, I'm not beholden to 100% items (UV Max excludes it for good reason), but you did replace the invuln spheres in MAP01 and MAP18. Decay Posted February 8 If a map had DM/SP specific arenas there isn't much we can do about the items, unless I added a dehacked that discounted them from the total tally. Which I suppose I could do. I dun goof'd with the computer map because I forgot that one counted, my bad. I've resolved that now. The cyber demons should be teleporting in, I'll take another look at that one, Razgriz provided a fix but I guess it did not work properly. Thanks for the bug check, really do appreciate that! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Giving the items in the DM area the multiplayer-only flag would prevent them from counting in single player, albeit not co-op. Probably the best you can do within the confines of vanilla. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Decay Posted February 8 Yea ideally I'd like both covered, but I think that's just not going to happened. I'll run it back for review and then do a quick run through to verify SP can get 100% across the board on all maps before posting the final version. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Fonze Posted February 8 This was a very fun wad to play through! I felt a couple maps could have used more ammo, particularly rockets 🥰 but it was good times. Some maps def took the sp aspect to heart and added some good progression to their layouts, and the maps without much resistance gave a nice opportunity to really appreciate their flow. It was funny going from a nail-bitey map straight into a map with like 4 zombiemen, 3 imps, and a chaingunner total, but according to decay 'map inconsistency is 90s' and that's not wrong lol. Among what I noticed, I def appreciated the totally-not-dwango references, as well as the brexec/greenwar inspirations. I love those wads and this would def fit in with a playlist of them. I found one big bug through the whole playthrough, map23, the judas remake, has the player spawn mixed up with a voodoo doll. The player spawns on the dm side and there is a voodoo doll on the monster side. Great wad, fun times! Vod: https://www.twitch.tv/fonze/v/2057045917?sr=a 4 Quote Share this post Link to post

Decay Posted February 19 Idgames link is here! Either play with yourself or with others, Wang does not discriminate with full sp, coop, and PvP compatibility. Looking forward to seeing some demos and PvP matches! 10 Quote Share this post Link to post

andrewj Posted February 20 MAP04 is from BOURGDM, and is nearly identical (same number and position of linedefs). What's the point of that? I don't get it, seems really cheap to just bung a previous map (of your own) into a new wad. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

It is in the spirit of DWANGO, which lifted maps out of other wads without modification (other than replacing the music). 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Decay Posted February 20 Many 1990s packs lifted maps from other sets and brought them in to boost map numbers. Often this was done without permission to boot, but yes doing that was to maintain that spirit. Review the textfile for the list of map names or my earlier post, as I acknowledge which maps are the "lazy imports" I advertised in the OP. Also the entire thing is "really cheap", considering wang's entire existence is that of satirical mockery of a series I really hate, if you couldn't tell. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
