100% VANILLA DOOM WAD problem?

I have an 8 map chapter for DOOM 2 but I have a serious problem. When the 8th level is beaten, it's supposed to end the game. (Killing the Romero BossBrain is meant to end the wad with some text). But instead, it goes straight into "THE PIT" from DOOM2. How can I fix this? I need it to play the end of game text not got back to the original DOOM2.

While not truly 100% vanilla compatible, you might consider using UMAPINFO as it is supported by many ports.

 

Otherwise, you could replace MAP09 with a "text screen map" (just a box room with text inside) with no map exit to halt player progression.

That is the limitations of  the original DOOM format.

The game can only be ended normaly after MAP30. Or like in Brit11.wad where they used a credits map MAP06 to end the game after MAP05, and you just press F10 to get out of the game.

 

To end the game at MAP08 (as in your case) use GZDoom DiHF or UDMF with the special 75 (End Game)
