I liked the gameplay flow throughout, combat was tough but fair and only the last few maps made me really think about health. I also liked the little homages that you made to your loved ones. Felt like they watched over me as I pressed on. I didn't find all secrets, but I found enough to tip the scales in my favour. I do like all the little environmental details like detached floor tiles, the "UAC" letters scattered beneath that door and so forth. Similar to what I try to do with my maps as well. I did find occasional bugs, most were pegged/unpegged textures in doorways and alcoves, though a few were in doors as well. Since you requested it I'll post the HOM/missing texture bugs I found below. All in all, a solid 8 maps worthy of the title. Ending text felt like a bit of a punch in the gut, but that's life sometimes. Hide contents HOM-effect at the bottom of the door: Another found on both sides of a stairwell: Thanks so much for playing and thank your for the kind words. I appreciate you pointing out the HOMS I'll have these fixed tomorrow. Thank you and so glad you enjoyed it! 2 hours ago, plums said: Yeah, I posted the letter node problem in my post above where I was talking about zokumbsp. Maybe you missed the link to the file there? Anyhow, happy to help. Oh yeah I missed that! Thanks so much again! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Cacodoomonic Posted February 10 Hello everyone. I have worked for the past few days fixing every single vanilla bug reported plus ones that I have found myself. The idea was that this was meant to be 100% vanilla compatible. However, upon repairing every issue in the game something I completely forgot about came to light. This game will never ever be 100% vanilla compatible. Not because of bugs, but because 100% had a limit on visible planes. I did not think about this when making the mod, mostly because over the years this issue was phased away; but it does still remain in vanilla and chocolate sourceports. Using Chocolate Doom, Vanilla Doom (and to a lesser extend DOOM95) you will have your game crash and close down when playing FINAL DESOLATION due to a visplane overload or a visplane limit. I deeply apologise for this oversight. The only way to fix this would be for me to completely redesign the levels, and I do not wish to change the mod this drastically. So for this reason, I am no longer calling this 100% vanilla. It is now Vanilla-based with limit removing requirements. For this reason, I am going to recommend (and bundle with the version 1.3) a copy of Crispy Doom instead of DOSBOX or Chocolate. This mod cannot be played with Chocolate or Vanilla. Crispy and other limit removing sourceports will be requires. I am sorry! But version 1.3 is coming soon and I hope you'll enjoy the way it was meant to be played! 5 Quote Share this post Link to post

DoomGuy2077 Posted February 11 I really enjoyed these! Do you have other maps besides what's posted here and on your website? Your "Doomsense" is really good for someone who's authored so few levels. The layouts, encounters and progression all flow really well. It was a pleasure playing. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Thanks a lot I'm really glad you enjoyed the episode! In fact I have been making DOOM maps for a very long time but never released anything full to play until 2020. (The map on my website and Final Desolation). Over the years I must have made over 500 maps but never released any of them. I have been working on a large entirely new DOOM game also since 2016 which started out as DOOM 0 then was changed to its currant name, Cries Of DOOM. (You can find the thread for it HERE: This is a massive project that I have scrapped and restarted multiple times but I was considering releasing all the scrapped levels as an episode in the future. Cries of DOOM will be over 40 levels long when it is complete and has DoomGuy enter five different episodes from a central hub he returns too between each episode. (Imagine DOOM Eternal's hub but in Classic DOOM style.) Cries Of DOOM has been being silently worked on all this time even though I have not updated the thread in forever. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Sounds like an ambitious project. The name hits nice, like Speed of Doom but evocative of horror instead of action. If you're ever in need of play testers, I'm lurking here all the time. Just shoot me a message. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I tried not to make it too frustratingly tough due to the high monster count so that anyone can enjoy regardless of skill level. Thanks so much for playing. I've submitted the 1.3 (classic) version to Bethesda in hopes it will become an official add-on. I can think of no better way to immortalise my loved ones than for them to be part of an official addon. Hopefully it will be accepted.🙏 Edited February 13 by Cacodoomonic 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
princetontiger Posted February 13 (edited) I've had a lot of fun with the first few maps...Great to see your personal Doom website... harkens back to the age of personal sites 20-25 years ago... My advice: Don't mention it works with Doom until you have that version available.... just mention Doom II. Edited February 13 by princetontiger 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
