Hell Revealed vs Fava Beans

fava beans is just flashback e1 but worse.

 

hell revealed, on the other hand, is unironically good despite its flaws. trying to get through the maps as quickly as you can is really fun imo :)

On a serious note, the only thing common between them is that they are both 90s wads. Fava Beans is basically E1 but more amateur and Hell Revealed is just a chore. I guess I will go with Fava Beans.

There should be a community project where the goal is to combine two unrelated wads (by mimicking their mapping tropes) from the same time period.

My pick is Fava Beans. It builds upon the foundation established by Knee-Deep in the Dead while subverting the expectations concerning difficulty curve by being easier than most of original Doom, thus making player once again experience the sense of innocent wonder reminiscient of the times they first booted up Doom when it was release.

 

The title Fava Beans is an allusion, referencing the famous line in Silence of the Lambs, keeping player on toes. It implies danger hidden beneath veneer of easyness.

 

Hell Reveled is Justabuncj bunch of stupid block MAZEs and slauther game play just spam BFG lol idk and Baron demons

As much as it hurts me to play Hell Revealed, picking Fava Beans over it would be like choosing a glass of room temperature water over a nice, cold and refreshing Pepsi with a side of knuckle-sandwich. Just because something is consistently high quality all the way through doesn't always mean it's much fun to play and the highs of Hell Revealed are unmatched by the highs of Fava Beans.

Fava Beans is an easy choice here.

It is one of the few old mods that evoke the same sense of nostalgia in me as the original Doom 1 levels.

 

HR by comparison is just a typical WAD made by people who think that killing monsters is all what defines Doom.

If we use beverages as an analogy, I'd compare Fava Beans with a fine old wine while HR is just some low quality moonshine you ultimately get a strong headache from. :D

This actually sounded like a serious post, because I'm sure there are people who appreciate Fava Beans' easiness (I sorta do, but I find it pretty boring mostly because it's just E1 with different layouts).

And thanks for explaining where the name "Fava Beans" comes from. I had no idea, so I assumed it's just a "lol random" name.

To be fair, though, I do appreciate Fava Beans for what it is, at least it’s not a chore, as someone described HR :-D

I think overall I prefer oranges.

Apples taste great, probably the better of the two flavours, but it's really really easy to overdo it and give myself acid reflux; which isn't pleasant. Oranges on the other hand, I get bored of before I get sick -- not to say they're bad per se, I certainly love a good OJ any time of the day.

I never played Fava Beans. But judging from my recent experiences with Hell Revealed, I'll try my luck with the unknown and pick FB. Moreso considering I don't mind an easy experience here and then.

I don't really remember much of Fava Beans aside from it being an okay levelset. What stuck out to me was the extremely abrasive authour, and the fact he did nonsense like upload Fava Beans to the archives a second time under a different name

 

HR has many unforgettable levels by comparison and made a much bigger mark on our history.

I have played both but I barely remember anything about Fava Beans, but Hell Revealed has some notable moments I recall, so I pick it.
