Search on DooMworld is kinda unreliable

I tried searching for Somnambulism map thread today and search found nothing related to it. Even searching for the exact thread title gives no results. And the thread is right there: 

I did check even the advanced options that I am searching for threads and in thread titles. I tried some other titles of threads and it just gives nothing as results.

Am I doing something wrong?

I'll be honest, I sometimes struggle with finding anything using the search function here, even using very discrete search terms that I know should come up with something very specific like you did, and maybe I'm still just shit at using it or don't understand how it works or something but based on my experience I'm much more forgiving these days of people who post thread topics that have come up in recent history.

There's no way to use search wrong. You type in word, it returns results. Yes, there's advanced options, but if a simple word search isn't working then that's the fault of the search system, not you (assuming you spelled it correctly of course).

 

I do remember previous discussions about the search being broken. Given that trying this same search didn't return anything post 2018, it may be that some cache or index of some kind isn't updating correctly.

I really don't know what you're talking about, I just tried it and it works as well as it always has:

 

 

Yeah, it is kind of crap. I've had very, very few instances where I've searched for something and actually found what I was looking for. And in those cases it seemed like I had to go through pages of results to find it, and when I finally did, the content seems like it should've shown up within the first few results. Which is why I would hesitate to tell someone to "use the search function" when they ask a question; because it rarely works.

Doomworld's software went for a Christmas vacation and forgot to come back. New posts haven't appeared in searches, feeds, or profile pages since December 24th last year.

The search function was really iffy well before that. I don't really recall it ever working that well, even before the forum software was updated in... 2016? 2017? Something like that.

So the search button here is currently for stress relief to click on and for how nice it looks but it just doesn't work... good to hear the problem is not on my side.

The issues with the search engine not keep track of posts after a certain date late last year are known, and are being looked into by the admin team, but as things stand there isn't currently a timeline for when things will be fixed.
