slayerS13 Posted February 15, 2024 Hello, I want to play Doom II on Mac, but for some reason when download the file from GOG.com, it comes as a .bin file instead of a .exe file. Is there anything I can do to try and circumvent this, or am I just screwed and can't play the wads I want? 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Judging by Google, the bin's hold the data to extract and you need a GOG setup installer. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

So if I get this installer, I can use my extractor and put it in GZDoom to finally play the wads I've wanted to play for so long? Thanks a lot! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
No-Man Baugh Posted February 16, 2024 OpenRCT2's quickstart for mac I think is a pretty good general tutorial for getting the files you need in a windows app:https://openrct2.org/quickstart/extract-rct2-files/macOS For me: I downloaded the "Offline Backup Installer" via GOG Galaxy and that seemed to get me a reliably usable executable for extraction 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Maximum Matt Posted February 20, 2024 Just remember, Mac users in the mid-90's were considered extremely nerdy and most people didn't care about supporting them 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

I recommend installing a source port such as DSDA-Doom or Chocolate Doom and pointing them to the WAD files that should have been included with your Doom purchase. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

mikeday Posted February 20, 2024 There are a number of source ports available on Homebrew including DSDA, Crispy, Chocolate, Woof and GZDoom. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

While this is true and I recommend doing this, you would still need to get the IWAD from GOG's installation. I don't know how GOG's installers work on Mac, but perhaps you can use GOG Galaxy to install the game for you. The GOG page for Doom II doesn't list macOS as a supported operating system, though, so that might explain why you aren't finding the files you need to install the game on Mac. Yeah, but .bin doesn't work either. You need a program called innoextract to extract all the files within the .exe (.exe only), then you locate the .wad then put it in the source port. 19 hours ago, esselfortium said: That's great, but this thread is about playing Doom in 2024... Big fan of your work btw! 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
