Xbox or PlayStation? What do you prefer?

i've bought three playstations in a row and if/when the ps6 is announced, i'll probably get myself a ps5 to play my ps4 games.

but i'm mostly a pc gamer and the steam deck 2 will probably be my main rig.

I like the PS5 because it has the BEST GRAPHIC compare to shitbox games that look like 2019 PS5 just get Last of Us 2 Remake never coming to scambox because it isnt powerful enough for REAL GAMES been a gamer since 2014 and PS5 the only way to play games us REAL gamers know that for decades now

I don't really have a preference between the newest gen of consoles as I don't have them to compare. I do, however, much prefer playstation's dual shock controllers for everything except fps, particularly for 2d games. The shallow face buttons are critical for certain button mashing patterns, such as hovering in alttp. The dpad directions being separated from one another is also an amazing design... I just wish it was a little less sensitive to picking up diagonals. For fps games I prefer an xbox controller or a similar design, for the positioning of the thumbsticks.

Never played anything on any Xbox, so out of the choices presented, I'm gonna have to go with the PlayStation.

 

Then again, even the latest PlayStation I actually own is the first one.

Xbox. I mostly play on Xbox Series X. Also a bit of PC and PS4. I play Doom on PC with a (gasp!) controller.

I'm an Xbox and Nintendo guy, since I mostly grew up when they were the top dogs on the console market. Xbox has very wide range of backwards compatible games compared to PlayStation, you can play a lot of old COD games such as Black Ops 1 and Valve's games such as The Orange Box and Left 4 Dead. Meanwhile on PS you're stuck with the newer COD titles and none of Valve's console ports are playable, hell, not even Half-Life is available on PS Plus.

 

Also, the controller is much more comfortable and inituitive, the stick placement is more easy on my thumbs, and I found the alphabetical buttons and the RGBY color scheme on them much appealing and easier to memorise than PlayStation's face buttons, so much so that when a game tells me which button to press, I can do it quickly without looking at my controller.

 

That said, I have hardly anything against PlayStation, though. I do enjoy playing plenty of PlayStation's IPs, such as Killzone and Twisted Metal.

 

Of course, it's worth noting that I said all this, despite never owning a single console, and I really wanted to all my whole life. I tend to play console-exclusive games through emulators.

Xbox by default since I have never owned a PS console.  I've never bought an Xbox myself but my dad likes them so I played on those some when I was in high school (or just watched him play Oblivion).  I've got a Switch and an NES and an Atari 2600 and they're pretty neat (I programmed a game for the latter one).  Most of my game playing when I do it is on PCs across a ~35 year age range.  We also had a Dreamcast growing up.  I guess I don't have a good answer to this question

Having both consoles I do have a reason to say the Xbox. I've used it like 90% more for a couple reasons.

 

But the main issue I have with the PS5 is the controller is kinda terrible and I hate using it. Microsoft I think won for all time with their controller design to the extent even Nintendo just copied it for their pro controllers, and of course I use one on my PC as well. I've been contemplating selling the PS5 because of how little I use it but, that said I don't think I will, it's the only way I have to play Dragons Crown, but when I use the Switch more than I use another console, it's pretty bad.

Playstation 1 and 2 were the ultimate consoles.
Xbox original and the 360 were pretty fuckin good too.

 

The more modern consoles are kinda dogshit on both sides.

 

Xbox has better controllers though.

Playstation for me. Grew up with the first 3 consoles and got the PS4 back in 2019 for more modern releases. I'll probably never get a PS5 though.

What about the backwards compatiblity? You can play a lot of the old multi-platform games and exclusives compared to PS.
