ARMCoder Posted February 18 (edited) Newsflash! Version 2.0 now on IDGAMES. Version 2.0 is out with considerable changes to the map! ===== Overall Description ===== Yet another vanilla map for those who enjoy the old classic look and feel. The map is mid-sized for a vanilla port, with a playtime of about 15 to 20 minutes. It features one key and eight secrets (none really needed to win the level). The available weapons are the CS-P-SG-SSG-MG-RL. The final arena can be quite hard at first, but the resources are there, and some exploration is instrumental to success. In the last arena, the teleports are more than just for mobility, they will be frequent life savers, use them often! And finally, use the SAVE feature, the UV level can be fairly hard! Note: From v2.0 on, a new weapon can be found at a secret area. It's not needed to win, but may be of help, or just for fun. ===== Release Description ===== This release is based on v1.2 (unreleased), so I grouped all topics here: Small textures/sectors/deco/lighting rework. One brand new and large secret area dedicated to the Wolfenstein lovers (tip: a visit to the restroom may be more rewarding than it seems at first). Even a few more bogeys and traps added. Download link on IDGAMES is here. ===== Archive ===== Download link for 1.1 is here. Download link for 1.0 is here. Here are the screenshots taken from 1.0. scrm Posted February 19 (edited) This was a very cool map. The architecture is pretty good and the texture usage was quite varied without ever coming across as garish. The one exception was maybe the final area, but it works there, and it does resemble the original IWADs that way. Finding secrets was also a lot of fun, and there's plenty of them in the level. The combat was also a lot of fun, with some quite interesting encounters. The final area worked very well as a boss fight. Those little cubbies work really well as place to think and plan your strategy. My one complaint maybe is that you're a bit too generous with megaarmors. You really don't need that many to complete the level. I was also tripping over way more ammo than I could pick up. Demo recording: ARMCoder-hellpeek.zip Before this, I had a really stupid death to the first pair of Barons because I couldn't dodge. Everything after that part is blind. Recorded with dsda-doom-0.27.5, -complevel 2. Great job! Edited February 19 by scrm 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
LadyMistDragon Posted February 19 Haha....seems like just a vanilla map..until near the end anyway. That sure took some guts, Only found 7 of 8 secrets, maybe i just didn't feel like checking the final room too much/ 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Indeed, I tried do keep the resource placement on the generous side, maybe I can add some more cannon fodder instead of removing the excess ammo! Thanks! Oxyde Posted February 21 So here's the mandatory FDA! The level felt built with an old-ish style, which I kinda enjoyed! Loved the little Doom Cute in the house area especially the enemy in the shower which I found funny for some reason. The Demons in sector #204 were a bit of an oddity because I could have easily escaped at any point and missed them all entirely. I understand the idea of the Invulnerability sphere and to draw the player's attention to better catch them off guard, but it felt curious given the exit is near and reachable in a second..? The final fight could prove challenging, should you run out of Radsuit! Also, it is possible to activate Linedef #1011 from below as you will see in my FDA. Interesting level! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ARMCoder Posted February 28 (edited) New version (1.1) is out! Date: 2024-fev-28 Description: - Final arena changed theme from Tech to Hell (the map's overall theme is Hell). - Removed a gimmick from that arena (it was doing more harm than good). - A few more bogeys to make the map harder/more fun. - Better balancing of ammo and powerups. - Fixed a false secret (there are actually 7 secrets, map was counting 8). - Other minor aesthetic improvements and fixes. V1.1 link here. On 2/19/2024 at 2:40 PM, scrm said: My one complaint maybe is that you're a bit too generous with megaarmors. You really don't need that many to complete the level. Roofi Posted March 2 Played on DOOM2.EXE Hell Peek reminds me of the early difficult maps such as HR series featuring beefy encounters inside cramped layouts. It's not hard but pretty intense and I like how the SSG and the RL are predominant here ! The layout feels organic and I've a soft spot for the doomcute which adds a touch of realism to the whole mess. The last room barks more than it bites since I had way enough radsuits to cheese the cyberdemon. Good map ! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

But I must say you played the 1.0 release. 1.1 was released last Wednesday and it brings a few gameplay and aesthetic improvements. A few more enemies were added, but most changes were made in the last arena in order to better match the overall map theme and to spice up the combat. So the map became a little harder than before, not really much. Cheers! 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
ARMCoder Posted March 18 (edited) Hi folks! I'm updating the project, NEW VERSION RELEASED! This version is an extension of the previous, with new areas, so I decided to rebadge it to 2.0 instead of keep increasing the map's ID to 1.whatever. For those who played the 1.x, there are several small surprises lying around in 2.0. ===== Release Description ===== This release is based on v1.2 (unreleased), so I grouped all topics here: Small textures/sectors/deco/lighting rework. One brand new and large secret area dedicated to the Wolfenstein lovers (tip: a visit to the in-map restroom may be more rewarding than it seems at first). Even a few more bogeys and traps added. Download v2.0 on IDGAMES here! You can find some more screenshots and info in the OP. Here I'm adding some new screenshots - the last arena was redesigned, so its screenshot in the OP is now outdated. Cheers and have fun!
