Gender neutral? Nah. Gender hostile? Closer.

 

Ermac is a mixture of souls in one meat sack and in American-Indigenous cultures there are people who identify as two-spirit... that's the closest connection to a real queer identity I could make for a case like this.

 

I'd say Ermac is a they/them, not because they are nonbinary, but because they are multiple people.

I'm not sure what to think of characters that are sort of gender neutral, but are referred to by unambiguous pronouns in official game materials, like Blupi, who is supposed to be a he, apparently. I guess they don't count.
