bioshockfan90 Posted February 24, 2024 (edited) I have to admire the layout from a pure geometrical standpoint, but there's really no traps, just seemingly random placement of mid-tiers with only the SSG for half the map to gun them down. I don't mind SSGing a couple Hell Knights if it means I get a chaingun or there's actually an incentive to do so - like I'm forced or boxed in, but unfortunately placement is such so that I ended up just running past everything because I did not feel rewarded by anything the map had to offer. It's interesting too because the layout could EASILY be made so much more fun by just starting things out with hordes of zombiemen and imps, y'know - actual monsters you can face down with the SSG and not have it feel like a slog. If all I'm getting is the SSG and RL in regular progression (and don't tell me there's a secret plasma - secrets shouldn't be mandatory for a map's enjoyment/playability) then it's no fun. The additions of the plasma marine were the only thing to write home about as they actually kept me on my toes. Right geometry, good aesthetic, gameplay is where it falls apart. If the monster placement were re-done to fit the vibe and the shapes you've created more, this would be pretty good. As is? I dunno... I guess it's pretty easy to speedrun. And of course not to be a total Negative Nancy, I do like the fact that the cyberdemon has line of sight from the very beginning. Maybe expand upon that. 1 last thing - why ModDB? Dropbox or Mediafire is what most folks use and ModDB is generally seen as a bit of a headache to download from. And then of course you can upload to /idgames once it's finished for preservation reasons. EDIT: Editing to say if you enjoy this map, that's A-OK! OP, it's good to get wads done and out there and I generally have more I like about this map than not, we can just leave it at "the gameplay is not my cup of tea". :) Edited February 24, 2024 by bioshockfan90 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Zesiir Posted February 24, 2024 Hard start, but manageable. The map really could do without the evil marines though, it's just annoying to include them. I gave up after my umpteenth death to their lightning reflexes and plasma guns. Shame really, I wanted to see what else the map was about. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

LadyMistDragon Posted February 25, 2024 Another great map! The lack of chaingun was an interesting choice but this didn't need it, just some more plasma for that central canyon because shotgunning then with a Cyber of Damocles and a stupid canyon you can get knocked back into is annoying. The evil marines weren't really that bad, though I did play a UDMF map that tripled their health and I was naturally dreading it and yes, their health was closer here to what I thought they had! 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Paul814 Posted February 28, 2024 Great job on this map tough start, but I stuck with it until the end. The fast gunners really surprised me wasn't expecting it. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
