I know Doom running on anything is a meme, but I never expected anything like this.

I never felt this fucking disappointed before. Instead of giving us an official wad or map for Doom's 30th, you can now play Doom on an Automower because haha fnuuy meme you kids like that right? :)

 

I know there were probably legal reasons or something but still. Not like Doom suddenly turned 30 out of the blue.

I like the "can it run doom" meme, but there is definitely a difference between that quite interesting question and the unfortunately more accurate "can it display doom," low-effort, disingenuous, clickbait garbage that people try to pass off as the former.

Yes, the can it run doom meme is very normie or whatever doom nerds say, but bad Apple is actually cool, because it's just playing a video on anything that can show 2 colors, anything, and it doesn't need to be a machine most of the time.

It's far more simple and "less" impressive than running a whole game, yet it's more "honest" and authentic, y'know what i mean? Probably not, because i don't know how to explain it.

And there's no clickbaity articles about it every single time there's a new version of the meme, so it wins by default.

Think of this, an airbike: The more effort you put into it, the more resistance it gives off, making the exercise give a greater challenge to every ounce of effort you put into it. Imagine using that energy to burn calories while generating enough power to keep Doom running stably on a display screen. That would be a neat way to run Doom and also a great way to burn calories.

This is the standard of the future - every new appliance these days is gonna have to have AT LEAST one small LCD screen on it somewhere to play Doom in some way.  It'll be part of the specs in white goods stores

Just a quick note that I've identified some of the engineers involved with this project and reached out to them about this. They're not actually violating the GPL yet because this isn't shipping until April. Hopefully we can get their changes published on Github.
