Makros_the_Black Posted February 26, 2024 (edited) So this evening I decided to do some experimenting with one of the bits of art I created for my megawad. I was curious how the enemies would look in game, as depicted in the pieces of art. I experimented with only one of the pieces because I wasn't sure it would even work out. (The final result is aweome... but this was such a lot of work for ONE enemy and it's only three frames...) So the first task was to determine just which piece. So, naturally I picked the Pinkie Demon, since frames can just be flipped to make their mirrored images. Spoiler (Oh cool! That IS how you put images behind spoilers!) Then I cut him out, flipped him and then merged copies of his image into one, for the forwards facing frame. I then created a greyscale version of each. I then created sprite sheets from both the color and greyscale versions. Spoiler I was pretty happy with how it was looking, so I took it one step further and converted him into Pixel art. Spoiler It's about here, however, my experiments are likely to end, and whilst these guys would look FREAKING AMAZING in DDDOBB?, just getting these three frames, was a lot of effort, and there are of course, not just the rest of the frames required for a Pinkie (not exactly sure as to what that number is, actually).... but 16 other monsters to convert from the original art, into pixel sprites as well. Not even sure all the pieces of art would convert across as well as this piece does, due to angles or poses of the enemies on some. I obviously didn't color the greyscale one with the Doom color palate... mostly because I'm not sure of what colors it has and I'm too tired to google that info for something that's probably not going to be utilized in practice. This was extremely fiddly and tedious work, tracing around him to cut him out and give him a transparent background... Much respect to everyone in the community who actually does create sprites regularly! For me, I'm not sure I'll experiment further... although I *am* torn on that... now I know how good the Pinkie Demon looks, I do kinda want him in Do Demons Dream?! That's it! That's the post. No questions or requests for information or advice on how to do things... Just wanted to share the results of my experiement and see what everyone thought of him as a sprite! :D Edited February 26, 2024 by Makros_the_Black 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Hebonky Posted February 26, 2024 Very cool looking, and it kind of looks like a flying pinkie. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post

He does kinda, but my intent is essentially a sprite swap... his hands would be his deformed pinkie feetz! :D And this is why I don't think he'll ever actually be.... I believe this is the correct Pinkie Sprite sheet... I have no idea how to get some of those angles. EDIT: On closer inspection... I believe I could achieve the rotations via a similar process to how I created the forward facing sprite... and I know I can do his chomping, but the walking... (I'd actually keep death animations the same, so they are 'cleansed' and transform into their former selves when they die).
