i have an idea for a wad but need help

i have an idea for a wad i would like to make but i am a new mapper (only made one map so far) so i wanted to ask if someone would maybe help,

 

here are my ideas:

 

1 it would be vanilla (complevel 2 limit removing) because the original engine is epic

2 the theme of this wad would be colorless i thought that there would be 2 episodes one on a shadow energy invased earth and the second half semewhere in shadow hell(something like later sunlust levels just not yellow bu white lights

3 the name would be like ShadowSlaughter/ShadowSomething

 

if you want to try my first map here it is but its very gimmicky

If "shadow invased earth" and "shadow hell" looks like the wad you posted, it's not a very good artstyle.

Your thread is just a request for someone to make you a map with a theme that you cannot even describe coherently yourself. You're not asking for "help". You're asking for someone to do something for you, posting a complete turd of a map that has no relevance to your idea. If this is supposed to be a community project, it's terrible - you couldn't even be bothered to make your OP look halfway decent.

 

It's crap, and you know it, but you still posted it. So I'm here to confirm that:

 

1) It is indeed crap.

 

and

 

2) Nobody here with a hint of talent is going to waste their time making the map you want.

that wad i posted was more than a map just something i kinda tried learned to map in UDB and definetly not what i want the shadow wad to be and why would i want someone to make a wad for me? if it is something i didnt even touch its not my wad and why would i want it if there were no benefits for me from that since everything that the doom community makes is free. this was just an attempt to find someone who likes the idea and maybe made a map or 2 i want to make at least 10 maps to the project and i want them to be good (so thanks for your opinion on that map i will try to make maps not like that:)

How can one improve as a beginner if you don't give hints as to what can be improved?

 

Now, i agree this is a particularly bad example but i feel it should be said that hardly any beginner mapper can improve on their maps by saying ''You should make improvements in this WAD''.

I can't be bothered to bold this properly, much in the same you can't be bothered to make this thread properly.

 

  1. If it isn't your wad, why post it? And why post it with a swastika?
  2. If you want someone else to help you join and get inspired by your idea, follow the link below. It is a sticky for a reason and there is no way you can miss this if you are geniunely interested in getting people to join:
  3. You want to make 10 maps and have them good? Try starting to make one map somewhat decent. Bar any outliers, nobody's first map is straight up a classic. And in that regard, Try starting to make a single room look somewhat decent. Make things smaller before starting on a map. Learn what linedefs/sidedefs are. Doomkid has a myriad of tutorials on these. If you want to be serious with this,invest the effort.
  4. OR.... be like the others, those first-timers who want the quickest results, and when not getting any, either resort to troll wads (Or starting their carreer with one) or fade away.
  5. And oh, if you have an idea: Try to properly describe it. I have no idea what you want with your request (or your map, for that matter)

Oh this was meant as a complete joke and the swastika is there cuz the level is using the wolfenstein textures but nega is meant as a joke im NOT RACIST by any means

You got the number one wrong. This is my map and as i said the swastika is a joke/reference to the wolfenstein textures when i said that if it isnt my wad i replyed to the guy who said that i want others to make the wad i want to make (the shadow themed wad)

I mean, practice making WADs, OP.

 

Practice, fail, learn from your mistakes, try again.

 

That's the only way to learn.

 

And please don't bother trying to be too edgy. Have a good idea for a WAD and work it, but before you do any sort of idea like Thing swastikas and so on, ask yourself "What does this add to the map?" If the answer is "nothing, really," then it's probably better to leave it on the chopping block. A good map has reasons it does the thing it does; "but it's cool!" rarely works out in practice unless you're doing some sort of mindblowing effect nobody's somehow thought of yet.

But yeah, no. Seriously, these are getting really silly now..

OP, learn to make maps yourself, and if it sucks then keep making more, keep watching tutorials and playing other PWADS. Unironically one of the best ways to start off is to play more wads you like and try making something inspired by them, (Read: not copypasting from them, nor copying from IWADs, or generating with AI, etc..)
I really just mean come up with something based on what you enjoy playing.

No offense, but you have to be a little better with the grammar around here. I'm not sure what exactly you're saying.

 

Overall, I'd recommend creating a demonstration of the specific art style you're talking about, even if it's just a room or two. That might at least inspire people a bit more. "Shadow Hell" could be an awesome setting or a really lame one, it's up to you to show us what it's supposed to look like.

Oh sure, I will make a map for anyone who asks, but I'm going to put as much effort into it as I am interested in the premises and have free time available (approximately 0.05h/week). Delivery estimates, assuming a conservative 100h/map turnaround time including playtesting and bugfixing, etc., would put that at roughly 2000 weeks per map, or 1200 years for a full 32-level megawad.

 

I'm a literal skeleton though, and as such I do not age. If you leave a properly notarized will behind I will make sure it gets to your descendants 😉

I'd say I'd endeavour to be more, not to be rude, clever with your jokes.

 

Comedy is mostly timing and delivery and the random ass swastika just there as "a joke" has none of these, therefore it doesn't look very good and just looks like you put a swastika there because you wanted to.

 

It gives the wrong impression, is all.

 

Also, again, what does NEGA mean? Does it mean exactly what I think it mean? Another N word perhaps? Lotsa tellin me you ain't racist but no explanation.

To be more constructive.

 

Your first map usually always ends up being naff, you are not a savant and that's ok.

 

Rather than experiment with odd ideas you have, perhaps look more to creating more conventional levels, play more older maps with less modern complexity to get a better feel for less technically impressive yet still decent maps. Once you have a solid foundation and understanding then the doors are open to experimentation.

 

I recommend level sets like Icarus or Rebirth for examples of lower tech level sets that are still incredible. Study and learn what works and what does not and soon you'll be able to really make something worth playing.

 

It can be intimidating, just start slow and simple and work your way up. Do not be scared of failure as there are many bumps on the road to Rome, you just gotta go through them.
