DSC Posted March 7, 2024 So, I was googling out of curiosity the exact date of release of ORIG.WAD... And guess what? It was in this precise day, exactly 30 years ago! And since it is widely considered to be the first user made level ever... It means it is also pretty much the 30th anniversary of the modding community as well! I wish I had something of substance to say, but I'm on mobile and it kinda sucks to write even just this lol. I'm a nobody with poor communication skills anyways, I'll let the seniors of the community to be the ones to say something significant if they want. Wow, three decades already... 21 Quote Share this post Link to post
EPICALLL Posted March 8, 2024 As someone hardly half as old as this community, I will say... It definitely doesn't feel like 30 years, in terms of progression in map designs, it's strange that WADs just like ORIG.WAD are still popping up today. We haven't gotten past that very low bar, we just look higher up the lattice now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

Mystic 256 Posted March 8, 2024 (edited) The first time I dabbled with doom mapping and editors was 2008-ish I think I feel like I'm still kind of new compared to others here Edited March 8, 2024 by Mystic 256 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

ASD Posted March 9, 2024 Crazy to think PWADS were a thing when Sonic 3 was new and before the big shooters Doom 2, Heretic, ROTT and Dark Forces were out. I respect every '94 and '95 WAD, no matter the quality. They're true retro. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
Andromeda Posted March 10, 2024 It's mind boggling that there's a lot of wads on /idgames that are older than me, and I've been around for over a quarter of a century now. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
