Frantik DM 3 is a 32-map deathmatch pack that is primarily FFA focused. I aimed for 3-6 player FFA style gameplay, but duels work just fine in this pack also. The maps are slightly larger, and much more detailed on average than those found in the previous set, Frantik DM 2. DoomCute was also focused on heavily - as well as creating more realistic spaces. A lot of 'advanced' features are utilized in this pack, such as 3D floors, sector-linked 3D floors, slopes, jump-pads, ACS ladders, swimmable water and no-stop teleporters. This large 32 map DM pack is split into 7 themed episodes. I aimed for a very diverse selection of arenas, both gameplay-wise and aesthetics-wise - the locations include: A forge, a foundry, an igloo, a froze over lake w/ ice-fishing, a winterized re-make of Frantik DM 1's MAP27, a frozen basin, a jungle w/ tree canopy, a remote island, a swamp w/ a decaying boardwalk, a watering hole in the desert, a subterranean cave system, a giant generator, a bunker, a rundown UAC-owned factory, a hydroelectric dam, a large prison, acid-melted bases, a nukage waste refinery, a chemical production lab, a nuclear reactor, a cursed crypt, a graveyard, a besieged hellish castle, and a hell-corrupted gory base - as well as a futuristic techbase w/ an alien UFO. Spoiler This mapset originally employed a lot of sector lighting, but after some feedback I removed it - I didn't want to risk alienating Software renderer players. So if you're curious as to why my screenshots appear different than the old ones in the 'what are you working on' thread, that's why. Trust me, it's very much for the better. The episodes are as follows: Spoiler 1) HEAT - 5 maps - (MAP01-MAP05) 2) COLD - 5 maps - (MAP06-MAP10) 3) NATURE - 5 maps - (MAP11-MAP15) 4) INDUSTRY - 5 maps -(MAP16-MAP20) 5) NUKAGE - 6 maps - (MAP21-MAP26) 6) HELL - 4 maps - (MAP27-MAP30) 7) FINAL - 2 maps - (MAP31-MAP32) This mapset is designed to be played w/ jump ON (imperative), freelook ON, crouch OFF, Item respawn ON, respawning barrels ON, and weapon stay ON. It can be played equally well in either OpenGL or Software rendering modes, depending on what you prefer. This mapset has been tested to work ONLY w/ Zandronum - it will NOT work in ZDaemon or Odamex. The format is Zandronum:UDMF, iwad is Doom 2. Pressing 'F1' will bring up a complete list of all 32 maps in the pack, color-coded by thematic episode, for easy viewing. Waiting at the TITLEPIC will show the CREDIT screen. See my attached readme for a full credits for that. ***EDIT*** FURTHER DEV INFO: (2024-03-09): Spoiler I found my original 'dev' notes! I was a bit wrong about when I started the mapping for this WAD - the very first map was completed on the 12th of December, 2023 (MAP01) - it was originally for an early version of Havok DM 3. MAP02-MAP05, were started a couple days after this, but were not fully completed levels until the 28th of December 2023. The current MAP26, and MAP31 were started sometime in mid-December, but were slotted-in very late in this WAD's development - these two maps were originally for a now cancelled DM project called 'Arrow-less DM' (working title) - something Endless and I were working on. I upgraded these significantly before release to better fit w/ the other 30 levels. Most mapping, (26/32 maps) was done between: December 28th, 2023 - February 29th, 2024. There was also once a different MAP26 - called 'The Cursed Spire' - it was a hell level w/ a large central spire w/ a BFG on top that was accessible by jump pads - after receiving some feedback, this map was removed and swapped - we felt it was too gimmicky. Currently the readme still has the incorrect start date, if I receive word of a bug that needs to be fixed, I'll update that info alongside the WAD. Apologies for any confusion about this having be made in exactly 2 months! I just wanted to clear that up! Decay Posted March 8 So this wad contains a lot of interesting layouts. It really has its own style, and I don't doubt if this was released 10+ years ago it would have some constant playtime and would likely be quite popular. As a mapper this set marks a substantial improvement over your previous work, with only a couple maps in the set I'd consider kind of dull. It's main weakness is otex becoming a little tiring, especially after 32 maps, causing things to start to blend together, but overall this is a very strong set that is highly polished. Thanks - I appreciate it! I did my best to provide as much variety as I could! I focused a bit more on making 'real' type places - like a factory, a forge, the igloo, the prison, the waste refinery, the dam, etc. etc. I enjoyed making the previous iteration in the series too, but those locations were a bit more vague in their appearance than the ones in this set. I tried to 'ground' these levels the best I could! Being able to use 3D floors definitely helped w/ that, I think. :) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Arrowhead Posted May 3 Okay, here's a very small update! Changelog: MAP22 - Excess plasma ammo and one chaingun ammo box removed. Other ammunition items moved / re-adjusted. MAP23 - I fixed a particularly obnoxious rocket launcher spawn, that I only noticed after playing this for WNDM - also removed 2 obstructive pillars. TXT - Corrected the development time for this WAD from nearly exactly 2 months, to 2 months + 16 days. This should be the final update for now!
