Your own "Lost Media"

Recommended Posts

When I was a teenager I wrote a few experimental pieces of music that I somehow later lost and have never been able to find. One was called "Mind Fantasy" and was just a bunch of highly experimental notation and techniques thrown together. Sounded pretty bad but it had a couple of interesting ideas that moved me a bit further along in discovering what works and what doesn't.

The other was a setting of an extremely dark poem I wrote while suffering from clinical depression, called "For Everything I Pay So Dearly". It was completed as a three-movement piano work, though the third movement was actually a drawing made over staff paper of a building with a significant role in my life ablaze in a firestorm. The instructions for the movement were to dump an accelerant on the piano and then light it on fire using a match. Pretty sure performances of that would've been rare. Perhaps some things are better off lost.

Worse than that though, I've been unable to locate my original score work for "Les sons de l'ete" for a few years now. I absolutely know I still have it but somehow, every box I look in, it's not there. "Les sons" is alive and well but I'm sad I seem to have misplaced the OG work as it had sentimental value and is some of the only actual evidence that I started it in 1994 (the closest things otherwise are the poems/lyrics I have written on high school notebook paper, and an EZNOTE piano roll file with a timestamp of 1997).

I've made "multiple bootleg music videos" with footage from random videos and movies , I've scrubbed these "multiple bootleg music videos" off the internet.

So basically like AMVs, but even more random?

All my mapping attempts prior to late 2019, not counting maps I've released. Nothing much of value, but I wish I could look at them now. The only thing I know is that my first mapping attempts date back to 2012 or so. One thing I'm certain about is that I started using SLADE in April 2013 (I found my old post on a local forum asking about a wad editor).

I have a lot of "lost medias". One in 2010 was "Doom as it was an Wolf3D clone", complete with opl sound effects (made on adlib tracker 2), obscure bobby prince songs and all that shit.

Damn, this is a special kind of autism that appeals to my autistic sensibilities.

I have to say tho, I'm cringing hard with that tiny window record. I don't have any idea why I did this lol

Couple of incomplete stories maybe, although most of my incomplete stories even back to my teens are backed up across a few places and are in theory locatable...
Perhaps one or two of the adventures or smaller campaigns I've run for TTRPGs? Those kind of semi-loose notes I lose frequently but I don't really know if I'd count it as lost media.

Game wise, I made a few toys in game maker and other engines but overall as much as I enjoy playing games, and as much as I work adjacent to dev, I'm not really a programmer by nature or expertise, so much as a sysadmin who can do some code and knows how to work with some DSLs. Although that does remind me of a hex based board game I made as a teen with spaceships trading cargo across planets and shooting at each other. Wish I still had those notes. Maybe the "Balmora sewers" level I made for Morrowind ages back. Things kinda keep popping into memory, nothing major but you know, would be nice to have a more real remnant of the memories.

The only one I can think of for myself would be all the maps I made in Warcraft 2 back in 98ish. Definitely lost on some long dead hard drive now. Ive been able to maintain all my Diablo 2 data after all these years though.
