I think at this point a stable version is not far off. Once Chex 3 Vanilla hits a stable version I will avoid making further changes to the maps, and then the organized speedrunning could begin. However, it may still receive updates to add non-desyncing changes, so I especially would encourage people to start speedrunning after the first stable version as the runs can be used to test that I don't create any desyncs. It's not considered stable just yet though, so please hold off from the organized speedrunning for now just in case desyncing changes are introduced. I'm also considering an /idgames release, but I would need to get Charles Jacobi's permission for that and then contact the maintainers about an issue I already know it would have about getting uploaded. (Specifically, it's because Chex Quest and by extension Chex Quest 3 and Chex 3 Vanilla have 4 textures it uses that actually originate from Doom.) 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Danfun64 Posted May 6, 2024 I'm a bit surprised there's no mention of the upcoming Chex Quest 3 2.0 release. There's going to be two versions: A GZDoom compatible version, and a version compatible with Odamex and ZDaemon. Notable, the latter has a fairly detailed DEHACKED lump. I think it might be a good idea to delay a final release and then try to incorporate 2.0's changes and maybe (parts of) the Odamex DEHACKEd file for greater uniformity. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

I based the levels on version 1.4 as those are simpler and much more easier to backport to vanilla compared to the 2.0 versions of the levels. I feel like I already ran into enough difficulties trying to backport the 1.4 levels and I didn't want to make it even more tricky. As for the DeHackEd, mine works well enough and I'm not sure but Chex 3 2.0's DeHackEd possibly takes advantage of extended features in the Odamex port, while Chex 3 Vanilla's is, of course, meant to work with vanilla. Besides all that, I just kind of have a preference for version 1.4. Edit: Also, I already spent a lot of time doing this as a 1.4 based thing and I don't want to delay the final release of this too much. However, I might consider doing Chex 3 Vanilla 2.0 as a seperate project later on instead, possibly as a PWAD for this version. Melodic Spaceship Posted May 14, 2024 (edited) Had to release an RC4.1 due to a glaring issue in the UMAPINFO lump. Also, I created a website for Chex 3 Vanilla! Currently, it's actually sub-pages on my personal website. Visit the website here (RC4.1 can be downloaded from the "Downloads" page): https://melodic-spaceship.neocities.org/chex3v/ Edit: The modding guide was updated a little and you can now play it in your browser!
