Mr. Dooman Posted March 19 (edited) Has anyone else noticed the similiarties between two of the midis in duke nukem ii and doom? Evil Be Gone (Duke Nukem II): (skip to 0:45~)(And He's Back, too [skip to 0:00])VSThey're going to get you (Doom) (slower tempo): (skip to 0:10) Kiss the Girls and Make them Cry (skip to 0:18)VSIntermission From Doom: (skip to 0:40~)Nothing odd about this of course, he made all five of them, and in the same year, just wondering if anyone else noticed. EDITED: i forgot to mention most of He's Back sounds very similar to The Demon's In Adrian's Pen, And some parts sound like Sign of Evil, and one small part sounds like The End of Doom. I'm not gonna link all those ones, and you've probably heard all of these anyway. SECOND EDIT: i just realised Dukin' It Out sounds very similar to Doom II's Running From Evil's Guitar Solo too. i'd put time stamps, but honestly if you listen to the midi you can probably hear the parts i mean. Links:Kiss the Girls And Make Them Cry(https://youtu.be/iL4bC2gXTlc?si=0ldW958vwMBq0hqi(i linked a rearranged one so you could hear the drum sound that was intended when he made it) Evil Begone(https://youtu.be/MIW7fQ2tNeU?si=eH14Q6yUawQsSHiw)(Note the comment someone made when i looked up the video, he noticed too)He's Back(https://youtu.be/oKa1trHTIPs?si=0D708HWfEWubI7W4)They're going go get you(https://youtu.be/TZQc9Uf5eSE?si=Dw-fMoLud2Bu8jvK)(Last link, I pwomiz :) SIKE!) Intermission from Doom (https://youtu.be/vVRbEvPvF7A?si=H41U--jXKXry2QJW) (If you need this link you might wanna question why you're on this site) Edited March 19 by Mr. Dooman 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
Murdoch Posted March 19 Well both were composed by Bobby Prince. I personally feel his compositional ability was a bit limited. With that in mind, some similarity in his works is inevitable. "Evil Be Gone" vs "They're Going to Get You" is hard to argue with, but the other might be just a bit of a fluke coincidence. 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
Individualised Posted March 19 (edited) Both games were scored at the same time. 0.5 also tries to play a Duke Nukem II song as a placeholder (but it's not present in the .WAD). It seems that there is a lot of overlap between the two games soundtracks and I wouldn't be surprised if some tracks in one of the games were originally composed for the other game. There's a few Megadeth covers in Duke Nukem II which could have easily been one of the unused Doom soundtracks, and They're Going To Get You's melody is the Duke Nukem II main motif. ETTiNGRiNDER Posted March 19 If you go through the various games that Bobby Prince did soundtracks for you'll find a bunch of similar bits and bobs. There's a track in Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure (on the ice level IIRC) that's a remix of the Bio Menace theme (or vice versa maybe), and one in Blake Stone: Planet Strike that's similar to Doom's Tower of Babel track. That's just of the top of my head. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
