Fun, easy, little weird food

This is a thread about easy snacks and weird (but still good) food.  No real recipes, please, but do share the ingredients. 

 

1. Thaw out frozen waffles and pan fry them in bacon fat.

2. Peanut butter sandwiches made with chocolate pop tarts.

 

Please share your ideas.

Not exactly food, but for condiment, you might want to try a mix of sweet soy sauce and chilli sauce. Add some boiled water for a Latino salsa-like consistency if you're in the mood.

Wouldn't recommend it for human consumption but once or twice a decade beer and coffee...?

 

Serious answer, take a flour taco shell, some lettuce and mild salsa, wrap like a burrito and snack.

Hilariously, some people in my country call sarsaparilla "coffee beer" despite containing no alcohol at all.

The place I had it at claimed it was a Kalimotxo, which is apparently a Spanish/Basque drink but I would have a hard time imagining that the original uses Pepsi. it's one of those things that tastes better than it sounds, but regarding the hangover I just had it with dinner in the same sense that you'd have a glass of wine with dinner.

How strange, do you know where this name comes from? Sasparilla doesn't taste a bit like coffee (or beer) to me. It is funny though. 

 

My contribution to the thread:

 

My mom grew up in a rural area, so she didn't have a whole load of money. She and my uncle used to make this unbelievably cursed dish that consisted of a slice of wheat bread, Pizza Quick Sauce (my mom sings the commercial jingle every time we talk about this lol), a Kraft Single's worth of American cheese, and a sprinkle of parmesean cheese. She'd throw it in the oven until the cheese melted and would then feast on her delicacy. I've never been brave enough to try it lol, but maybe I will one of these days. 

 

I like throwing cheese unto a tortilla with whatever meat we have left over and frying it in butter.

It's from a small town located at my country's second largest province. Given that it does contain coffee flavoring, I still find it a fair name (another traditional beverage from a different place in my country also has "beer" on its name, despite its lack of alcohol).

Oh interesting, where I'm from sasparilla is made from sassafrass root and has a bitter and sweet flavor. Not any coffee to be mentioned of. I'm curious to try what you're talking about. I guess root beer and ginger beer are two beverages that have no alcohol in them too. I think back in the day, the carbonation in them was made from fermented ginger, which does have alcohol.

The thing is that coffee beer is only a variant of sarsaparilla, just with coffee flavoring. As for the another beverage I mentioned, it's neither here nor there.

 

Now back on topic. When I still couldn't eat bread for a weird reason, I found myself taking marie biscuits and sandwiching them with a spread or a jam. Not as satiating as bread, indeed, but still pretty relishing inside my mouth.

Peanut butter, while sweet, isn’t as sweet in America as the peanut butter imitations I’ve encountered in other countries. It’s not hard to make a savory peanut sauce with it.

 

I like to boil ramen, strain it, and then cover it with Sriracha Mayo and the seasoning packet. My daughter calls it spicy noodles and it’s been a favorite of hers since she was like nine months old.

I generally use a "natural" peanut butter with no sugar added or make it with a food processor.  However, the savoriness of the other flavors overwhelms the mild sweetness of most peanut butters.

Not weird but I like to open a jar of peanut butter and dip pretzels in it.

Tater slices (Boiled or raw) on a tortilla sprinkled with crushed doritos and cheddar. Shove it in the oven until the cheese is golden brown. Consume as if like a pizza.

Here are a couple more ideas:

Mini pretzels dipped in cream cheese mixed with ranch seasoning.

Apple slices topped with cheddar cheese and a drizzle of honey.

Tortilla chips with melted marshmallows and a sprinkle of cinnamon.

But in general not every wertd food combinations can be good. I have read here that for example soda and pizza and bread with jam is kinda bad. So minus beloved snack. Sad tho

I love Doritos with sour cream :P My another go-to weird snack is slicing up apples and dipping them in a mix of honey and sriracha. It's the perfect combo of sweet and spicy. Speaking of unique flavors, if you ever need help pairing drinks with these fun snacks, rabbit hole distillery customer service is amazing for recommendations.
