Nixx Posted March 31 Hi Tired of endlessly searching for a wad to play? And what Endless Random /idgames WAD Adventures doesn't suit you? I present to you THE solution to your problem: the random wad downloader, an idiotic project, not neat and barely tested allowing you, as its name suggests, to offer you a wad randomly on IdGames, to download it, or not. I apologize in advance if the topic is in the wrong place. Test it => Releases · Nixx57/IdGamesRandomDownloader (github.com) 5 Quote Share this post Link to post
OnionTaco22 Posted March 31 Well now I will never be able to say "I have nothing to play". 3 Quote Share this post Link to post
DiceByte Posted April 1 Next April fools make a random terry wad downloader. It would fit perfectly for April fools. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
ObserverOfTime Posted April 1 The only thing that would make this even better is if this program could automatically launch the downloaded wad with a source port of your choice right away. Preferably out of a temporary folder with as little information as possible. Run the program, it drops you straight into the wad without having any idea what you're currently playing, only for the wad to disappear in your temp folder once you close the game. That way whatever you just experienced would remain a true mystery, and you wouldn't have any preconceived notions tarnishing the experience whatsoever. Maybe the user could input the path to their source port executable at the start, maybe it could be read from a config, just an idea. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post
Nixx Posted April 1 (edited) I thought about it, but the problem is that nothing indicates, apart from the .txt, for which source port the wad is designed. And the idgames API does not distinguish between a wad intended for Doom, GZDoom, MBF, Boom etc. In summary, it is possible if the source port is GZDoom, which supports all formats. Afterwards I must manage so that the files are executed in the right order. In theory this is possible to determine, with a system that analyzes the files and determines which source ports are compatible. But you will understand that this project is done in just an hour or two. If someone with the motivation and skills wants these features, they can always submit a pull request or fork their own downloader Edited April 1 by Nixx 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
