Actual first PWAD found?

While travelling through random doom website I can't find anymore I found very unsettling post

Hey, guys! Do you know about that upcoming Doom game? Guess what! It was leaked!

Just like level editor for it. I spent some time learning it. I made replacements for all 3 levels, but was too lazy to finish 3rd map :(

We also discovered skill line parameter, so I was sure to make different enemies for different skills as well!

Just replace DOOMPRESS wad file with mine and you're ready to go

I already packed this obscure pwad with press release beta (source: idgames archive), so you have just to unpack zip and launch doom, easydoom or harddoom through DosBox or real msdos

So I originally thought this was some bullshit ARG being worked on.

 

Damn this is actually fucking sick. If only the mod actually worked well.

 

Jokes aside, the fact that the original user got everything working the way it was, and with surprisingly good detail for the time, is one hell of a respectable achievement. The fact you even FOUND THIS is awesome.

It is impressive at a glance, but I must admit a tad bit of skepticism -- do you have the doom site you found this on by any chance?  This especially seems way too high quality for "early" PWADs.

 

I really do hope this is legit, though -- the screenshots definitely look legit enough as it is and I'll be running the WAD you packaged shortly. If this really is real, then I'll sit down in the corner and wonder how the hell this came to be in the first place!

April's Fools or otherwise, this is quite interesting actually.

 

The dead giveaway, however, would be the door sides that aren't lower unpegged.

While I want to hope this is legit (if isn't not the end of the world, I think this is cool anyway) there's something that is bothering me while I play these levels... it's got somewhat good flow. Like if this was cleaned up for regular old DOOM I believe these would be nearly on par with an Episode 2 or 3 level and that's really strange to me. Because in 1994 your average PWAD was boxy, unbalanced, visually uninteresting, and probably straight up broken. But these levels? There is so much use of different textures, keyhunt flow, height variety, and even some light platforming. Either your doing some cool advance bullshitting for April Fools or the WAD author was way too ahead of the curve.
