Floating sector in sky in Boom software mode?

Question

Posted (edited)

I'm trying to get this effect in software mode: (ignore the minimap in the top-right, forgot to turn it off)

In hardware rendering (GZDoom, dsda-doom, etc.) it's no problem, just fall into a pit with a skyhack wall around everywhere else, and leave out the lower texture on the wall under the higher sector.

Of course this doesn't work in software mode, and you just get a HOM under the higher sector instead.

I thought there was a way to get this to work, but maybe I'm misremembering things. Anyhow I'd love if anyone knows a solution.

That effect has been explained in spcial12.zip

Just add 2 adjecant sectors

sector_in_sky b.7z

Unfortunately that doesn't work for when the player's view height drops below the height of the floating sector, which ruins the effect I want to achieve. It might be the best thing I can hope for though. When standing still, view height is 41 map units above where you're standing; accounting for view bobbing etc. 32 units under seems pretty safe.

Also I don't believe the adjacent sectors are needed for Boom, just vanilla.
