Night Dive Remastering The Greatest FPS Ever Made*

And no, it's not a joke. Well, I mean... what I'm saying is, there's a Steam page so it's like an actual thing as opposed to a goofy Photoshop.

I'm both surprised and not that this is happening. Surprised because PO'ed was hardly the most-loved of games, and not surprised because Kaiser's love of it is far from a secret. Games like this are actually probably a good use-case for remakes and remasters, taking the weird and interesting ideas from the original and seeing if you can iron out a few of the flaws and untie some of the kinks, instead of piling yet more polish on an already pretty-shiny statue. (Not that there's anything wrong with that, mind.)

Absolutely friggin' wild LOL, I was going to start cracking this one open on PSX after finishing a different project but I guess someone better at it is going to do the 3do version instead.

My body is Reggie.

Does this mean a Capstone game remaster isn't out of question one of these days?

Any news on the Bloodshot project?

Spoiler

Needed to take a break from that one since it's all I'd worked on on and off for 3 years... will probably finish that after I get this other mini project done

I loved Po'Ed for being so profoundly silly and i am glad this is getting more recognition. Nightdive once again showing their love for the tr(ash)ures of yesterday's past.

Well, a remaster of The Fortress of Dr. Radiaki isn't out of the question if PO'ed can get a remaster. Needs more shiny RTX reflections with a big smudge filter, though - then it'll be good.

Pretty sure none of the team are into S&M so I would not get your hopes up there.

Well, Eradicator it should be then. Hopefully Tommo is kind enough to hand the current license they hold to Nightdive is kind enough to revisit that one with a remaster, especially what with the non-functional and undocumented map editor it has, leaving it such a wasted potential. *wink wink nudge nudge @Kaiser*

Sado for killing enemies, sure! Not maso though, as Capstone games are very cool :-)

Having played through Radiaki and beating it a few days ago, the game is such a wild fever dream that I think any "improvements" would detract from just how absurd the game is. You really need to play it with the recommended specs of a 486SX-33 (I'm assuming with a VLB video card and not an ISA card, though the performance gap with a 33Mhz 486 between typical VLB and top-rated ISA cards is much smaller than faster 486s) since the game speed is tied to the framerate, and having it run at ~17 FPS makes dodging projectiles reasonable.

I'm also convinced in my headcanon that it is an over-the-top parody of Doom clones - not just the content, but the engine itself. Having sawtooth-like movement when simply holding down forwards/backwards when facing certain angles, projectiles rarely shooting straight (and I'm not talking about a horizontal spread), projectiles visibly shooting through enemies, plenty of walls that break the raycaster (including allowing to simply walk in and out of the void on Nursery (MAP14) and Sheel Herr (MAP17) respectively, allowing you to map out every secret on those two maps), getting stuck on corners frequently (more frequently on the right side of walls than left), things frequently appearing like they're embedded deep in walls if you're standing at a short distance away, whatever the hell is going on in Mayhem (MAP13) with multiple things occupying the same x/y position in several places and the most useless door to ever exist, the horrible perspective correction that makes horizontal bars on textures have some of the most awful vertical distortion I've ever seen when viewed from a non-orthogonal angle, and finally the automap functioning based on what tile you've walked on rather than line-of-sight.

It's an unrivaled experience that simply can not be diluted. Certain things are undeniably cringe like Radiaki's accent and samurai deaths, but the rest of the content is just absurd to the point of comedy.

Killing Time remaster when

But which version? I would prefer the 3DO version over the Mac/PC version.

(snip)

I would be fine with just porting it to consoles and adding a bunch of trophies and framerate fixes. More games to platinum is always good, after all.

I've never even heard of this. Must have been a console exclusive?

Yep, only for 3DO and PSX back in the days.

Try asking that to Zoom Platform under Jordan Freeman Group. They still have it commercially sold online (DRM-free, while we're at it!).

It's emerged, screaming and covered in unidentified fluids, on Steam, GOG and every console under the sun for Twenty Earth Dollars. I played the first few maps last night, and it sure is the 3DO game PO'ed, albeit with controls that don't make me want to scream and some clever little tweaks here and there.

Let's go baby!!!

Anyway, you can also make custom PO'ed maps with Blender (see the video below).

Now here's the burning question: 3DO levels, or PC levels?

Looks like PC levels with a few nips and tucks (and some 3DO enemies?)

I was hoping for both. The PC version is superior, but the 3DO is such a different experience it's worth exploring as side content.
