Update on the "masters of BOOM"

Recommended Posts

confused?

About 2 years ago I submitted a post to doomworld about this bootleg doom game uploaded to the microsoft store. Well I have some updates about it. The creator is listed as "Mike L" who also made another doom monstrosity Doom Pack II which was famously covered by Dwars. After research i found that it is most likley Mike Lordow. The name I got from this thread from 2021.

Now awhile ago I also found his twitter which I sadly cant find anymore. All I remember was that he had a redneck rampage profile picture and something that just isn't right. Looking at his twitter I couldn't find a download link for the port he was always talking about. Yet after further inspection i found that you had to pay for his patreon to get his port. @Doomkid made a really good video about why its not right to put a source port behind a paywall https://www.youtube.com/watchv=tZ7UJbQrW_o&t=72s. No matter what should a source port be behind a paywall especially if its utter garbage like this one. Another thing is that the masters of BOOM is still on the microsoft store. And the WORST part is that there now are two others that aren't free. This is beyond horrible and a scam. But another bad thing is that theres probably nothing we can do as he was smart enough to use the freedoom sprites instead of the regular doom sprites. Another thing i found was that the atleast two of the levels are from MAXIMUM DOOM.Untitled.png.d7ae00ef090bedac7863f886d6248257.png

Hey Airwalk.wad one of the few levels I actually enjoyed when I was playing some of Maximum Doom, I wonder if they "borrowed" some levels from other shovelware disks from back in the day. I will say that feels kind of slimly using wads from those disks or other old wads from the 90's, as I feel like only well versed doom fans would spot the stolen levels with a high success rate and then using freedoom textures to trick unaware people to download it. I did find the two other games you were talking about, this guy was charging 3 bucks Canadian for Boom Band and Boom Duo, starting to wonder how many of these he has made.

I thought this was going to be a new book about the creation of Boom and all the great mappers who made WADs for it.
