Idea: Who'd be interested in a multiplayer Doom egg hunt?

Easter has concluded a few days ago, and I hope everyone has eaten a large but not unhealthy amount of chocolates, sweets and what have you. I actually got a great idea for a fun event right for it right after it ended though: A egg hunt!!!!!

Back in the old ROBLOX days, an annual Egg Hunt would be hosted where players would try and find eggs in a big adventure. For the two earliest ones, rather than a dedicated game/set of games, eggs would rain down into all the games on the platform at specific times.

 

So, I'm curious: For the next Easter season, how many of you would be interested into playing an adapted version of such a concept? It would be quite simple: On or around Easter, I could host a regular old Doom 2 deathmatch server with everyone's favorite maps (Entryway, Dead Simple, etc...) but an additional WAD would be included with the collectable eggs. Some could spawn by dying a certain way, others could just randomly fall into the map, others I could just spawn in manually, etc...

While most eggs would just be able to be picked up, some could maybe defend themselves and require players to kill them.

As for prizes, my idea would be to give stuff like printable certificates that you collected the egg, and whoever would collect the most eggs could get a grand prize (Like a real version of the egg or a cash prize, who knows...)

 

Yeah, a bit of a childish idea, but let me know if you would be interested in such a thing, and I could look into setting it up for next Easter.

Nobody likes Doom2.wad. Except for perhaps team last man standing.

Nobody needs or wants an admin babysitting a server manually spawning items in. This idea doesn't make any sense at all. You would also have to keep port compatibility into consideration.

Honestly it just sounds like you have no idea what you're doing. Don't waste your time.

 

Easier/better would to be leveraging existing mods that do some of these things, such as skullbag, where players collect coins spawned from fragged enemies and deposit them at their flag stand (in a ctf map) or team/individual having the most coins. Alternatively game modes like attack/defend or possession would be more appropriate. I think there is a mod used for zandronum's domination game mode that designates domination sectors in any given map based on sector index, something like that could be leveraged to spawn individual actors such as eggs if you took the time to find the right sectors. There's a lot of variables and different ways of going about it but the way you present it just says "I don't play multiplayer, have no idea how to organize events, but I want to organize a multiplayer event for youtube views"

You know, there's a difference between giving constructive criticism, and just being rude.

I had no intent of providing constructive criticism, merely outlining which parts of your idea were bad and why. One does not always have to provide constructive criticism to offset the negative feeling of being told an idea is bad.
