plums Posted April 5 I think old versions of Doom Legacy, while it was still being built for DOS, support Heretic. There's also this version of ZDoom 1.17c that is supposedly for DOS, never tried it, maybe worth a look. http://www.zdoom.org/files/zdoom/zdos117c.zip 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

Yes, just not very many of them since Hexen, well, it already was DOS to begin with. Hexen 2 was not though, but it got backported to DOS a few years ago. 0 Quote Share this post Link to post
MrFlibble Posted April 5 Bernewfie is a dedicated HeXen DOS port by @ludicrous_peridot. I also believe that Vavoom should have support for both Heretic & HeXen, and it actually dropped the 320x200 resolution sometime along the development, so 640x480 is the lowest possible option IIRC. 2 Quote Share this post Link to post
mnb Posted April 5 hexetic crashes at startup hexendos doesn't have a download ZDoom 1.17c crashes at startup vavoom crashes at startup bernewfie works fine and smooth as silk 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

That's because you need CWSDPMI (or another DPMI host). If you want to play in DOSBox, I recommend using this patched version. Edited April 11 by MrFlibble 0 Quote Share this post Link to post

ETTiNGRiNDER Posted April 11 Just a hunch, but try disabling joystick support in a config or setup or whatever? I'm not sure though, I never tried the DOS version, but in my experience Vavoom was always kind of a buggy POS that would crash at random for unclear reasons. 1 Quote Share this post Link to post

wesleyjohnson Posted April 22 (edited) In the last year, DoomLegacy had some DOS support from one of the users. We included patches from that user into the source code. Do not know how far they got as they have not replied since. These were mostly typos in the DOS port software that had accumulated due to changes in the port interface over the years. The DOS port support is still in DoomLegacy, and may be gotten to work. I would have tested it by now, but for time, and having lost my DOS partition when last upgrading this machine. Over the years, all patches to the port software, have also been patched in the DOS port software too. I just have not been able to run it to test for bugs.
